FLOW AND PERFORMANCE: I tested this rack with a hard disk (HDD) and SSD. The results are excellent via HD Tune:
- Samsung SSD 840 Pro 256GB: Transfer rate topping out at 209 MB / s (average of 181 MB / s). No latency with record access time of 0.1ms.
- Green 2TB Seagate HDD: Transfers of up to 138 MB / s (mean 108 MB / s) and an access time of 14.1 ms.
This case is the perfect tool for urgent and unplanned repairs, or to change HDD quickly (useful for managing files from multiple sources). As an IT professional, I appreciate it for my own use, but also professional (+ service calls backups and data recovery).
The case of the power button snaps into a dug quick and secure housing which prevents accidental pressures. No need for screws or mounting accessories. Connect a hard drive "naked" is quick and smooth: it is sinking and it connects to the end in the internal connector.
No need to restart the computer or install drivers, it is automatically recognized by a PC (Windows 98 to Windows 8) and Mac (from Mac OS 9.1 and Mac OS 10.8.4). Its USB 3.0 interface (backward compatibility and USB 2.0 / 1.1) intends it to all computers with a USB port. I recommend plugging it into a port to the 3.0 standard to benefit from high speed (up to 5 Gb / s theoretical).
BOX: The rack comes with a thick USB 3.0 to 1 meter (too short) and AC adapter (12V / 2.5A), the cord is too short, you may need to use a USB 3.0 extension cable. A detailed instruction manual is also provided.
It ranks in the original carton and transported easily.
CONCLUSION: Inateck FD1004 is simply the best dock I've tested and easy to change the hard drive without neglecting the fact Stability-tool dreamed of any computer technician. It lacks more than the E-SATA interface, even if it is ringardisée by broadband and simplicity of connecting USB 3.0. The FD1004 is a robust case that those you find on specialized sites. This is a reference, to buy without hesitation.
