Convinced have me at the G16 mainly of pro-claim (of functions and operating concept) and in particular the very high for this class aperture of the lens. With a 1.8er-panel you can already do something! I was so used of my lenses with fixed focal length and did not want to miss it. The rather small zoom range of the lens is enough for me personally completely out, large telephoto focal lengths I do not need. If you need a large telephoto focal range, you should look more like a camera other than the G16 - but then you have to accept significant compromises in light intensity in purchasing.
Overall, the camera makes a high quality and robust impression, especially the metal housing has a pleasant feel and fits comfortably in your hand. One exception stands out unfortunately negative: the control knob for the zoom lens acts wobbly and cheap, so do not want to match the overall design of the camera.
The image quality is excellent and is my SLR not much after. Cutting back, I could now make only at the color rendering up, here the G16 something unnatural (sometimes slightly reddish) acts as my SLR. This can, however, fully offset with a manual white balance. In terms of sharpness there is absolutely nothing to complain about; significant noise I could not find 80 to ISO 400 in the range of ISO.
Overall, a perfect camera for traveling and as (almost full-fledged) substitute for a large and heavy SLR equipment.
