I bought this lens as "normal focal length" for my Cropkamera EOS 400D.
Autofocus:
The lens has a USM autofocus, which is very fast and silent. For me, he was so far mostly fail and only in very critical moments in low light did not hit the same. Compared to the 28 2.8, which is no longer manufactured but is a huge improvement.
Sharpness:
Admittedly, the sharpness is not as extreme as in the 50 1.8, if you caught there a good specimen at maximum aperture. But still one can achieve with an open aperture beautiful sharpening and indemnify. The often criticized edge blur at open aperture can I neglect, because I like to indemnify persons at open aperture and wants to blur the background anyway.
Stopping down to win at focus and just for landscapes one can achieve very good results with shutter 4. I usually even from aperture to shutter 11.
In Lowlight I use this lens also like, however, you have to know that the focus is not just top up to the edge here. In normal printing is but see hardly anyone and it's still better than having no picture anyway.
Processing:
I hold the lens for good workmanship. It wobbles nothing and everything runs smoothly. The connector is made of metal and also otherwise so far only positive things I noticed.
Use in everyday life:
I mainly bought the lens for landscape, as it has here on Crop almost "normal focal length". The low wide angle seems to me this even against something.
For indoor shooting in confined spaces with people, the lens is also suited very nicely. It has my've completely replaced and even in portraits, the lens is always on my camera, so I 50mm even recently sold 50 1.8.
For the one who is eligible?
In my opinion, the lens is suitable for all who want to have a bright fixed focal length in the range of wide-angle light (full-frame) and nearly normal focal length (Crop). Compared to the newly calculated lenses from Canon, the price is very attractive, these costs with IS almost twice as much, and you do without an IS at this speed and focal length.
Why a point deduction?
Unfortunately, you still have a lens hood to buy. Therefore, the price will increase again. Actually, I would only deduct half a star here, but since this is not possible, it has unfortunately become a whole point, so that a better lens can still be better assessed.
