Pioneer VSX-528-K 5.1 AV Receiver (Airplay, control via App, DLNA, HTC Connect, MHL, vTuner web radio, Gappless playback, 3D, 4K Ultra HD pass-through) (Electronics)
My 15 year old Sony Dolby receiver had zuzulegen only Analog inputs / outputs and so it was about time, a device with HDMI. He should have Internet Radio, was besides the Android app and the tempting price (199, - at Saturn) decisive. The design is very reluctant to say the least and reminded the two giant controls on tube radios from the 50s. Right volume and left for the inputs, the switching path of the left controller is very large, so that one is quite a while on cranks. A shorter contact travel or alternatively a smaller regulator would have been better. The display provides very little information, the graphic sign of the key issue are recognizable only 2 millimeters high and thus only from nearest proximity. Can be at the front little set, even the changing world of web radio is not there, to the TV must be turned on or you do it on the App. The OSD has 80 years of quality, is extremely ugly and only in English. Unfortunately, the receiver does not automatically switch to the switched component. The name shown in the display of the active input can not be renamed, so I had to stick to the front panel, so I know at what input which is connected a piece of paper. That was my old Sony better. The sound types, eg DolbyProLogicII Movie / Music or NEO6 are not saved for the respective inputs. So if I want to have the TV PLII Movie and Internet Radio with PLII Music, then I have to change every time. The iPod control is a joke, although the lists are displayed correctly, but then I choose a title is something completely different play and always the same, no matter what I select. At least playback of AAC formats from USB flash drive (64GB) works. When selecting titles through the app, regardless of whether or USB Internet Radio only about 2 dozen titles are listed, you want to continue to scroll you have to press a button and load the next section of the list. With over 1000 stations may take several minutes until you found the desired station or title, but mostly, the app depends earlier on. A search function does not exist. About the app can do it quite comfortably, on the FB and the OSD that is already borderline. Only a quarter of the screen is used to display, course roughly pixelated. The receiver detects when the TV is turned off and then turned on also from ... theoretically. Practically he does it only when he feels like it, sometimes yes sometimes no. He will not come on when a device connected to the input power is turned on. However, switching on and off is possible via app when "Network Standby" is activated. The sound quality is no better but no worse than my old Sony. The automatic calibration of speaker has the subwoofer almost reduced to zero so that I had to correct this. Otherwise, it worked. The remote control would not develop bad. Almost every key has a double occupancy, tiny font and many abbreviations whose meaning you have to look up once. Reference is here: "CD in the PC Load" for a manual in paper form, there is not. The manual is long and confusing, also there is also described VSX-828. Who wants to buy this receiver anyway, which should enjoy definitely a smart phone with iOS or Android. Reading digestion you should not be, because the absence of self-explanatory menu navigation studying the operating instructions is imperative.
UPDATE (07.04.2014)
Lately disappears every now and then the display for the currently active input, eg SAT / CBL or DB, DVD, etc .. Then only the small icons and the source indication (H, C1, D) can be seen, the rest is dim. When the receiver off and on again it comes back often. When the indicator eventually remains permanently dark I have to send the device.

Now all HDMI inputs are dead! No matter what device I connect, the receiver can see nothing. Bin yesterday issued just after Saturn and have the unit for repair. In a 2-week-old device one would expect a replacement, but I now do not care that should make the good times to guarantee, otherwise I'm bein lawyer.
Update (04/27/2014)
Saturn had repaired the receiver and he was again about 2 weeks. Now I have the same problem again: All HDMI connections are dead, and the output does not go. Tomorrow I'll bring him a second time for Specialists. Is that now go on forever, that it runs only 2 weeks and then needs to be repaired? I want my money back!

The Pioneer Service called me. You could not find a fault. When I had the receiver back, everything went back. They also told me the shortcut key for the reset. So everything should run again if the problem occurs again. It pushed the cause of one of my connected devices that probably sends commands via HDMI, the VSX-528 can not handle. Well anyway, I have just always reseten, have bought in the meantime a new set of high-end HDMI cable. My SAT receiver I have now connected directly to the TV and leave only the audio signal via coax the VSX-528th
The Controll app for Android supports streaming audio files directly from the phone memory. Unfortunately, it recognizes that the ID tag not the most AAC files. There is another way to play the files, but not, you can not navigate through folders. The AAC's are all but geTAG't correctly, eg Poweramp has no problems, but I can not stream the VSX-528. So there is the USB flash drive must turn again. :-(
