Customer Review

"Draconian Times" was the third of three seminal albums of the group, "Paradise Lost", and comes from a very creative period of the band. Later elements used are already anticipated, and show the logical development of the group. The dark, gloomy-threatening atmosphere had been established in the music as a fixed starting place, played increasingly well as partly a untergeornete role than anyone was yet accustomed to Death Metal times. The album did this sacral-dark mood well. Additionally joined a Nick Holmes has perhaps never been better sung, and tough as lava then flowing guitars by Gregor Mackintosh and Aaron Aedy, a deep bass Stephen Edmondsdon and Schlazgzeug Lee Morris'.

Enchantment: Good opener, which already anticipated the aforementioned desktop elements such as piano / keyboard intros before then insert a short time also guitars and vocals and about six minutes Dark prozedieren rock.
Hallowed Country: Faster than the opening song suggests "Hallowed country". Great text, great chorus, and all the band members can shine.
The Last Time: Good piece, but nothing more. The repetitive chorus disturbs something gives the album but some Hittauglichkeit.
Forever Failure: Great ballad, great text. This song was brought again live, and reached - in addition to "The Last Time" - in UK even single chart position. Another classic of the group.
Once Solemn: Again taken the pace and mixed with a dark, potential hit chorus. The guitars and drums establish itself very well next to Holmes' vocals in the music.
Shadow Kings: slightly weaker than its predecessor, good deal but nothing more.
Elusive Cure: Another great but this song feels the next - just even more compelling tracks in the first half of the plate - rather weak.
Yearn for Change: No classic but very good, interesting text, class chorus gleefully stretched guitar riffs. You notice here but in my opinion, something that lacks variety.
Shades of God: Great chorus, all members shine again, and here and there are even more elements, which in turn were taken to follow disks.
Hands of Reason: Virtuoso Introduction, dark mood. Great! Why this song not advanced to the classics, is revealed to me not really until today.
I see your face: Quite nice, is weakening in the end - as might be expected after so many high-profile songs - but. Otherwise, a total of a good song.
Jaded: Great end for a great album that can finish the board more or less convincing. Another classic, but could also obtain any other awards.

The mid-nineties, the group therefore showed us that even more stuck in them, as a darkly menacing death metal band. Once again we see the group as they solemnly dark rock and / or gothic metal celebrate, in a way, how she was accustomed only by a few bands. A pity, but that's why no less bad or annoying, I find that the group then has devoted more and more to the pop aspect, be anticipated from the Beginning to places elements. Despite minor Kritkipunkte my hand a very strong, if not the best Paradise Lost Album. Rarely before or since has the group experienced as strong as here. And the steady development was expected to be included.

Conclusion: Perhaps the highlight of Paradise Lost.
