As a long-standing fan of fantasy with a collection of books dating back more than Decades I care to remember, I had great hopes for this series of books Given the rave reviews. I Was, HOWEVER, Destined to be sorely disappointed. I struggled through the first four books in the forlorn hope que la story Develop Some Would Actually pace and grab my attention. It failed completely Call and I finally gave up hand way through book five. I suppose Robert Jordan succeeded in so far as he managed to get me to part with hard earned cash, goal that's not really the raison d'etre for writing a book (is it?).
The characters Were completely Call one-dimensional and totally unsympathetic, the pace Was lamentable and all of the plot devices-have Appeared in other, far better, books. There Were A Few sparks of originality purpose They Were Merely short Lived glimmers of light in the dark night of pitch Otherwise tedium. By way of contrast, Consider David Edding's suberb Belgariad - that's the way to write a story!
Dull, slow and turgid; I Could not wait to put it down. If you've nothing better to do on a rainy day, go outside and get wet.
