Mae Holland who was bored at Stadtwerke her small hometown, followed by the fame of her college friend Annie, a bigwig at the Circle, and begins in the customer service. She is doing well, but quickly makes you her clear that the Circle is not only interested in a good performance, but to the community. Hey, you were 10 years ago times in Portugal. Dave Eggers here assumes the presence of Facebook and Google and spins them further. The Circle - a bunch of do-gooders who simply meddle in everything. A world in which personal interaction more and more of Smiles. Frowns and parts dominated? Privacy? Pah! Privacy is the right of individuals in the way to know everything he wants to know. And Mae is drawn more and more after initial teething problems in this world.
Sometimes the author carries on too thick, sometimes are simply the actions and mindsets of all involved almost absurd. The conclusion of all the problems seems to be the Circle always that you have not revealed enough of themselves. But that will probably be so, who knows if the 21 year old that always do not really see in 2018 or so when.
All in all, "The Circle" is an interesting thought experiment, (act affairs and family life of the protagonist somehow a little too forced, even if they play an important role also in relation to the Circle.) With slight weaknesses in the B-note and strangely is the Waldschrat without mail address most popular figure.
