Willy is a musician of the old school. 25 years after his debut "Cabretta" he remained true to himself in spite of the ever-recurring danger of success ("Each Word Is A Beat Of My Heart"). And since moving to the vicinity of New Orleans, he has fallen more and more of the original, bluesy music. The documented his final, rough studio album "Loup Garou". With "Live In Berlin" we experience the musician with the cool raspy voice and the trendy beard as he einspielt with pianist Seth Farber and bassist David Keyes as a trio of classics Rock`n`Rolls. Of course, the umpteenth recording of "Shake, Rattle And Roll" or "Spanish Harlem" is not necessarily worth a message. But for a flourish these pearls of music history (among many others) in their hands to new heights, and on the other hand they provide us beyond other, lesser-known gems from music history in a new guise. Somehow the songs from Berlin have not lent the material for a double CD, so that on CD2 still live recordings from Stockholm contributes - Another walk Schrammel skirt nice variety. It seems that is currently undergoing a renaissance of primitive music. Or how else the albums of Chris Rea, Mark Knopfler or current charts entry of Willy DeVille should be evaluated? Me as a senior student likes the course.
