The two powerline devices can be easily removed from the package, there are 2 pieces flat LAN cable, and a Quick Start Guide (but perfectly adequate) at. May 540E to the Powerline you plug it even via cable (LAN) 2 additional devices directly, if you do not want to access the WLAN / can.
Following the instructions, setup is a breeze! Both devices in sockets plugged (where one to a wall outlet, one was connected against the guide with a multiple socket in the same room), wireless cable from the router (in my case a Fritz Box 7390) inserted into the Powerline 510E, the button on pressed the bottom of the Powerline 510E, waited briefly, until you find the device - that's it!
The Powerline 510E is with us near the router in the office on the ground floor, the 540E on the 1st floor.
A loss of data throughput is indeed noticeable and measurable with a Speedttest, but is in my case probably 1 in mind that I have the powerline network is not aware in a Gigabit LAN integrated, and 2 via the router menu only Playstation 4 preferably in WLAN use, all other devices are subordinate in the access. In addition, a smaller loss drops at a 100 Mbit Internet access no longer significant. On the 1st floor are 2 pieces Playstation 3, 1 PC and 1 iPad "latched", for applications such as Amazon Prime Instant Video on these devices than enough data transfer rate.
Caution: the Powerline 540E is displayed as a separate WLAN network. Is the WPA key that you need to connect devices to the wireless network (if one does not own devises key) on the underside of Grätes.
About a browser window of the computer (I use an iMac, which you can connect quickly and easily with the Wi-Fi) you can then, like the distinguished Fritz box menu the "fine tuning", set the start and stop time for the powerline network for example. Ih have the same time a firmware update starts, but this took some time, but I do not know if it was because of the file size or the fact that the software installed so slowly.
Whether the powerline network can also easily be integrated into existing WLAN, is beyond my knowledge (I suspect this is only possible if one uses the powerline network as a repeater).
It is astonishing that the range compared to the Fritz box 7390 is a lot higher. The time required to access the wireless network of the 540E seems to be felt more quickly than via the WLAN rout.
There were no dropouts or connection breaks, everything works exactly as I had imagined.
I am excited and happy to recommend this product!
