Epic storyteller

It is, to say the least gratifying that once again someone is making a concept album where the music can fulfill its principal purpose, namely, the listener to tell a great story. Our narrator is obviously something melancholic because he has just turned thirty, and that also means: Farewell Youth! At the same time reflects the story of the presented here, which makes this age so appealing: a first maturity that sets itself as patina beyond the dreams of past years.

Woodkid does not hesitate to break this so pathetic imagine how they just represents, and therefore strings, choirs, piano and wind instruments should not be missing. Accordingly there is an aesthetic that is known from the silent and quite big films, and it's the music of a long credits, which concludes Part One of a wide narrated life story for now. There certainly is no lack of dynamism, but the beating and perhaps the most famous piece of "Run Boy Run" - a first-rate song - is not even the highlight of the album. Already the melancholy opener "The Golden Age is over", which inflates from a subdued lament to wuchtigem Despite, are the theme of the album before: The best thing is over, but life goes on. With "Run Boy Run" is from this run a rushing ahead, but also the remains escape. This flight is only in "Boat Song" to a halt. This gem of a song lives above all by a careful arrangement of piano, vocals, synths and a heartbreaking Blaster Part. An absolute highlight! The same is true for the wonderful "I love you", an absolutely danceable number for two that is not afraid also large and small sounds and strings in addition also flutes and bells used ...

And so it goes on and on. If one were to talk about each song individually, you would end up writing a book, or rather a novel. And that's what makes this disc. Certainly: superficial coolness comes totally from this album, but who - perhaps at the age 30+ - its inner workings even want to trace in Cinemascope and the grand gesture is not afraid, who must access here. A plate without a single failure.
