Surprise: MeeGo can be gratifying operate well with a mouse and keyboard to change the keyboard layout to a German; the tiny keys, despite Wurstfinger after a very short period of familiarization amazingly easy to operate and here just to achieve "possibility", additional functions and also the normal function keys only in combination with the FN key, do not bother really - for the keyboard looks pleasing cleaned out ,
Interim conclusion: The netbook is very "round" and can, as it is delivered directly to parents, friends and others, not so computer savvy people are passed. The development of Stop MeeGo is hardly interested in this audience and surfing, emailing and writing is possible.
Upgrades: Rear owns the X101 a big mouth, under the memory module (DDR3) and SSD module located.
Memory is quickly replaced (CL7 memory Transcend 2GB (1066, SO-DIMM) DDR3 RAM kit).
Then look for a larger SSD - not so easy, because Asus shrouded in silence and no one else can provide reasonable information on the interface. miniPCIe port and chipset strengthen the hope that it could be an mSATA - it is!
Here the choice is very large, but the new SSD module should not necessarily be more expensive than the netbook. For this reason I have decided to use the mSATA SSD 16GB Transcend A300 internal hard drive (6.4 cm (2.5 inches), SATA II), which has a sufficient size and sufficient performance with 16GB.
Operating Systems: After MeeGo not so that's my, Windows should it.
XP Easy to install (USB CD-ROM or a bootable flash drive provided possibly the AHCI mode must be disabled), but it remains relatively left many unrecognized devices.
Annoying is the WLAN module, because cumbersome without power wirdŽs - the drivers for the Atheros AR5008 gabŽs on the Czech Atheros page (just after "Atheros AR5008" Search). After gingŽs afloat continue with various Windows updates and the graphics drivers from Intel. As rest still remained an APCI unit left - again gabŽs a hit on Google "ASUS010".
The X101 runs on Windows XP and Office 2010 very good and fast, even with the 8GB SSD, more is better, however.
Conclusion: A fine instrument at a very good price, which leaves a good impression also upgraded both in original equipment, as. The display is matt and thus also in the outdoor area (not in direct sunlight) can be used.
Weaknesses:
- The Läufter runs very frequently and unfortunately a bit out of round. You hear in a quiet environment.
- The number and position of terminals is a little spotty. Although there is an audio output but no input - Skype the interlocutor therefore hear the fan vibration by something (!). The left USB port can be plugged in power supply does not use with USB flash drives, because of the distance bush is very low.
There is no monitor output. For presentations either a wireless beamer or a USB-VGA adapter is necessary - but Presentations should not necessarily belong to the planned application.
