Better pictures are always an incentive also to let the technology involved here. Three different Laser-full ground glass were produced specially for the EOS 40D a whole. One of them is the focusing screen ef-D with a grid.
The Ef-D grid matte screen, you can align your camera to edges or lines of a motive. Especially when you want to align houses in architectural photography exactly in the camera viewfinder, no getting around the grid passes. But the horizon for landscapes is therefore perfectly aligned.
Since the standard focusing screen is the Ef-A, the grid matte screen must be purchased separately. It is supplied which is in an oblong box made of very hard plastic. Finally, they should have the Custom Function IV 5 to a value of '1: Ef-D' set, this is also recommended in the manual. This completes the exposure is optimized for the special feature of the focusing screen. Finally, I want to emphasize that the viewfinder brightness does not change! This applies only to the TV screen Ef-S and even if lens aperture 2.8 and higher.
