At first I presentation of "A Dark Mind" has cast a spell, the cover seems disturbing but fascinating and provides so together with the blurb already a first indication in which direction the story might go. The book itself is provided through the chapters with quotes of various serial killers, what reading brings a certain eerie overtones.
The story mostly revolves around Lizzy Gardner, a private detective and even loaded with a lot of private Balast. In Lizzy, who has just moved in with her boyfriend Jared, you will find a sympathetic and tough person who can be as soon not be deterred from their plans. Much further part of this story describes the fate verschiedner couples or couples who are the victims of so-called Lovebird killer and there are also some episodes from the perspective of the killer. These strands were unconnected for me a long time and gave up until the middle of finals thriller really mind. And just as I had to shimmy slowly through the various scenarios, also Lizzy had to slowly fight for their opponent.
I found the English in "A Dark Mind" not very complicated and would recommend this to a halfway skilled reader, because with a little practice you should understand the book very well and can read. The style of the author, I found a bit strange, because it is precisely the frequent switching between people and scenes interrupts the flow of reading relatively strong and how it's always a person you follow rather by history as another and prefer one then would always be their scroll chapters. Other than that, the style but pleasant and has a frighteningly realistic picture of the individual characters delivered.
My conclusion: An exciting and brutal thriller, which can be read well even without knowledge of the other volumes. For me the end was surprising and definitely makes the book highly recommended!
