Customer Review

We review 06 May 2005 at London's Royal Festival Hall a memorable event takes place. The Art-rock legend Van Der Graaf Generator commits after 29 years their live comeback in the occupation of Peter Hammill (vocals, keyboards, guitar); Hugh Banton (keyboards), David Jackson (saxophone and flute) and Guy Evans (drums). The concert will be recorded and is now at last, after differences with Virgin Records on Hammill's own label "Fie-Records" as a double CD before. The band is celebrated frenetically and proves that their reunion is justified. Although it is not yet perfectly matched, but the musicians bursting as ever before playfulness: Hammill sings like a young god, keyboard virtuoso Banton has not forgotten his keyboards to elicit complex structures, Jackson plays incredible saxophone and flute parts and Evans holds the whole structure together by its dynamic, relevant song rhythm work. The repertoire spans the VDGG history of "the least we can do is wave to each other" from 1970 to "World Record" by 1976. In addition, they present "(In the) Black Room" of Hammills "Chameleon in the Shadow of the Night "(1973) and 2 titles of their current studio album" Present ". A completely happy package for the fan so. And in this way a rarity, because David Jackson will be in the future no Van Der Graaf more, so that there will be in this situation, no further albums.
