Two years and a few tours later published in 2011 the new Katzenjammer album and has to be measured against Le Pop, to a grade rod which has set itself the band. Sounds unfair, but is so. But the comparison with the previous album must not shy away from the four Norwegians, it sounds almost as if they had left the tent of the circus, would have gone to the country and would enter in any dirty Hafenkneipe chansons, rock and folk at the best. Your new pieces are quotations rich and prove that the musicians well versed in the history of their genre. The variety has not come you lose, the complexity of the individual pieces and the joy of experimentation have lost nothing. The inclined listeners can look forward to a musical roller coaster ride. All fears the girls would lose their uniqueness with growing awareness were in vain.
Criticism can - if at all - only to make the presentation of the CD. In already quite thin booklet no lyrics are included and only two bigger photos. The cover of the booklet is simple but somewhat carelessly designed and unfortunately there is no limited edition, in the example a few live shots were heard.
My Anspieltipps include Great Dust Storm: an almost epic song that is implemented in four parts and work almost without instrumental accompaniment; Rock Paper Scissors: an almost classic Irish folk song, mixed with a touch of individuality and poppy interpretation; Soviet Trumpeter: takes us into a dark, smoky Hafenkneipe, wicked and playful; Lady Marlene: a beautiful song, wonderfully sung in several voices, discreetly accompanied the rhythm of a waltz; Cocktails And Ruby Slippers: Sounds somehow after 90s teen dud, turned very kitsch and ironic.
The Anspieltipps I just remembered on that I might like to list all new titles loving, every song has its own charm and it is not worn out even with repeated listening, to the pieces are too complex.
Conclusion: strong buy recommendation!
