After good experience with a Blu-ray burner by LG built in 2009, I spontaneously for my new iMac 27 "Late 2012 (.... who unfortunately more .... no optical drives) bought this burner, although I none - inexplicably not the LG phone support - could say whether this unit is running smoothly even on Mac After extensive testing I can confirm that this is fully the case, the LG BE14NU40 is both the operating system as well as Mac-burning programs,.! such as Roxio Toast 11 immediately recognized. Thus, it is even possible to burn data, music and movies to CD's, DVD's and Blu-ray's directly from the Finder. Of course, the burner is supported completely by Toast 11. The burning rate is - probably thanks to the USB 3.0 interface used - very high and the data transmission is very smooth. A Blu-ray with 4x speed is continuously burned with 4x speed. This was not the case with my "old" USB 2.0 burner. Higher burning speeds I have not yet been tested for lack of suitable Blu-ray media, but assume that the stated values can also be reached on Mac almost. The LG BE14NU40 plays DVD's easily available through the Apple DVD Player and CD's can be quickly ripped by iTunes. Unprotected Blu-ray's - such as my test fired to self-made HD video - you can even using the free available VLC Player also reflect on the LG on Mac. Since the appearance fits (aluminum colored plastic front and white casing), this unit is tuned actually optimally to current Apple products ........ the more curious that this LG communicate in any way, not even their hotline is able to provide information about it. LG seems to ignore the Mac users completely, although there is a growing market is expected to arise from the current Apple philosophy! So I'll probably update must continue to rely on a Windows computer for future firmware?!?! Just for a point deduction. The device itself would smooth deserves 5 stars, although the drawer looks a bit shaky as the only Mako in the open state. The operational noise is rather low for ....... and the price / performance ratio very good. I can make this very quick USB as a replacement for saved Apple optical drive recommend 3.0 burner every user new stationary iMacs. He is far too clunky to operate on the road such as the Mac Book Pro. There is then also other alternatives (see test in MacLife 2/2013).
