Since about October 2010 I feed the birds in our garden. It quickly became a year-round feeding therefrom that I run today.
The first provision of food in a small, not very humane Futterhaus I had the expectation that in the next few days even a bird would pass. In the end, it took less than half an hour until the first blue tits had discovered the crib. A few hours later, a brisk business was already to be noted, especially all kinds of tits that are found in our countryside as: blue, cabbage, hoods, marsh and coal tits. But even a Kleiberpaar turned out to be a regular guest from the very first day.
After the first attempt on my balcony I made me smart about it, how to feed them properly. The little bird house on the balcony gave way to a big in the front yard, where the food quite dry stored in a silo and metered by the design is provided. In addition I have a "stainless steel Hanging silo" hung in a nearby bush tightly meshed, in which I exclusively give peanut halves. This is practically served only by Meisen.
Now to the actual topic: The food offered here. I agree with my Vorrezendenten that the wheat proportion in the diet is clearly too high, that so few remains are from the offered food. The feed mixture is offered here but - in my opinion - still a good compromise between cost and benefit. To make the food "attractive" for our feathered friends I evaluate it yourself to something:
At about three 1-liter beaker feed mixture I give about 500g standard, fixed (soft tolerate a drop of water) oatmeal (about 35 cents per 500g pack), a half cup of sunflower seeds and about a quarter cup peanut break / peanut halves. The oatmeal is my experience of blackbirds, robins, sparrows, as well as the jay quite like gefuttert. I spend about one to two 1-liter cup of mixture prepared daily at the birds in the front yard. One should always observe something, as the needs of the birds is just.
I have noticed that not all birds want to use the "protective birdhouse" as a food source. Just robins and Serin, Green and Chaffinch, but also the bullfinch or Dunnock obviously have a problem with my manger. So I give you a good part of the daily amount of feed not the bird feeder, but directly to the ground. Unfortunately, that also attracts mice, but increased my observation to the biodiversity, which can be observed at the bird feeder.
To motivate the all-season feeding, I would like to say the following:
2010, I, as already mentioned, beginning with the wild bird feeding. We live in a rural area, behind the house is a spruce forest, the diversity of wild birds is therefore quite high. Before 2010, however, I have not seen a single sparrow at home. In 2011, stray now and then field sparrows to our feeding place. 2012, we have about twenty, if not more field sparrow breeding pairs can observe the bird feeder! I have in the November / December 2012, observed several times that a hawk tried to hit wild birds at the feeding site.
There is no doubt for me from pure observation found that the wild bird feeding has benefits for the wild birds. The food offered here is certainly not perfect, but to provide a good start and a good base a variety of wild birds with food.
