The fine but little difference to the Amiibo figures of Nintendo is that the characters no compulsion in games where they are to be supported. Everything is possible, nothing is neccesary.
Currently the compatibility of games for the Wii U and the 3DS is still quite meager. So in the Wii U are (as of March 2015) once only following games compatible: Super Smash Brothers for Wii U, Mario Kart 8 and Hyrule Warriors
The 3DS version of Super Smash Brothers will follow, but only as soon as the New 3DS appears and the corresponding NFC adapters for older 3DS.
The following things can make optional the characters in the play.
Mario Kart 8:
Selected characters like Mario, Link, Peach turn special outfits free for the Mii driver. Not every Amiibo figure is supported here by the game.
Super Smash Brothers for Wii U:
All Smash figures of Amiibo series are supported here. It registers the figure with the play and missed the figure, a unique skin, gives him a nickname and can its values (attack, defense, speed) through the feed from front to Items found high powers. As soon as you then sets the character in Smash mode to the NFC scanner, you can fight against this character or have them play against the CPU. Here you can level up the character in addition, you start at level one and can practice this until level 50. Only what something is interfering with the fact that you can really only use the Smash mode the figure. A play with the figure in the Classic mode or the All-Star is not possible.
Hyrule Warriors:
Here each Amiibo should work figure. Once you put a figure on the NFC scanner at the title screen of the game, you get a gift from the figure. The link Amiibo figure allows special items for Link to get. Gifts may be material, rubies or Items. Accomplishing this is limited to five Amiibos per day.
Other games with Amiibo compatibility are touted as would eg Mario Party 10, which will have a special Amiibo games table. Even Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker can be played later with the Toad Amiibo.
The quality of workmanship of the figures is made very well and good. It is in any really great attention to detail. When you consider how cheap are the figures of the detail and the good quality is very good, right Sammlerfiguren are far from expensive than the Amiibos.
On the whole, I'm very fond of the principle of Amiibo figures, I had a fear that Nintendo wants to impose a the figures here in your games, but this was much better resolved fortunately differently and.
