Now this is history for me! For me, there is only three albums of the band so far. At Sixes and Sevens, An Elixir for Existence and now Perils of the Deep Blue. I would even say almost, Sirenia have finally managed to create an even better album than their highly acclaimed first-fruits!
Why Sirenia is only now find their way back to their old strength clear to me as well as being Rätzel? Is it in this band always the same mastermind responsible for the songwriting. Suddenly, everything is the same again, as it had not been for the three bad albums. Hardness, bombastic, majestic choirs, an incredible number of very good ideas in the songs and especially complex song structures all together longer than 3:20 min walk. Sirenia provide here even the longest song of their history from more than 12 minutes. And no one of them is boring.
Already the intro makes this feeling come up again in me from when I first heard Sirenia with her then first album. This unique feeling I have long missed in the band.
Sirenia break new ground. What has been flushed to soft in the past is now caught up here. It is run over by a brutal hardness of the songs that they were not at all used to. The sound is mixed more than fat and good, and the bass ... my face !!! In addition, Aylin shows for the first time that she really can sing !!! What I found her voice in the past annoying. The first singer could not hold a candle, but now she has finally out the rotation!
As mentioned above gets offered a lot of variety here you. The 12 minutes Mamutwerkt silence Kom Doden For example, Symphonic Doom Metal in its purest form. Something I have not heard from Sirenia. The song really strikes a whole new direction. My Destiny Coming To Pass convinced me by a totally brilliant chorus, which is not, however, nearly as catchy. But therein lies the strength of the entire album. You can listen and listen and discovered new, since the works are all very complex. Earlier you heard unfortunately after one Listen everything and the charm was gone. Moreover, it was then that was not even good.
I'm really glad that Mortem has thrown everything overboard that he has so taken the last years and now found back to his roots and really good pieces. Even the bonus tracks are here no filler but real grenades which can also regularly so the album could have been cut.
Maybe this album also discourages fans the last three albums on. Old fans but it will certainly attract a completely under its spell. Now I can also be happy again to this band live.
