Plantronics Voyager EDGE Headset Black (Wireless Phone Accessory)

Customer Review

One thing first: I suppose not mince words. If I do something "crazy" find, then I write the same way, give my sentiments exactly again.
One thing first: I will praise and criticize. Of course I know that the proud owners of critical reviews may not suffer, therefore depreciate. So I urge everyone "Abwerter" to his reason to call in the comments. If there is no comment, we all know that it is pure Patzigkeit.
And one more thing in advance (but then is good): I compare the Edge every now and then with the pott ugly "Jabra Supreme", which had been my reference.

Important: make sure to read through the excellent review of "F. Behrens" Since there is so much interesting and valuable information, also it is written very pleasant! I do not want to compete, describe my personal impressions. The cover often with the view of Mr. Behrens, but sometimes not. :)
What is missing here, you will find in the review of Mr. Behrens. One really does not need to invent the wheel twice. ;)

Packing
Yes, the packaging is pretty expensive. A real puzzle in which I was puzzled more than once: "Yes, and how we go from here How do I get this thing on, without destroying everything?"
Packaging is chic, is really something for the eye.
Of course, entirely useless because after unpacking and contentment you throw away everything anyway. But honestly, if we buy a disgustingly expensive headset; how would we react to a measly package? With a lack of understanding. Then we would be upset instead of the expensive maintenance on the cheap packaging.
However: For me it would have been better if Plantronics a bit less packaging operated, the money saved would rather put in a better package. If one has not.

Short on the individual accessories articles ...

Ladeetui
Looks nice, reminds me seen from the front of the Colosseum; is not much smaller.
Practical: charge status of the case and of the locked headsets with red and blue light idiots are displayed by touching. Looks Hüsch and has practical benefits.
However, the thing is huge; not like you put in the pocket. Way to high. Ok, the headset will disappear completely in it; but he might have been the thing much flatter. The integrated battery lasts for about one and a half loads. Say: This thing has virtually no capacity. In massive Ladeetui you but could also accommodate a decent battery effortlessly.
If one has not.
So we have a huge Ladeetui with popeligstem minimum battery so each the worst of both worlds.
My God, Plantronics: How drunk you were actually in the development of the loading cases? Far too bulky to take away, far too little capacity, as that the take was worth at all. Completely required in practice, just rarely stupid.

Cigarette Lighter Adapter
Plantronics may also tiny; the adapter is really not much bigger than a thimble. Throws loud imprint 1 A current, therefore also suitable for charging of mobile phones with dual USB port speed. Doing better, but is still completely ok.

USB cable
Well, just a USB cable with microUSB connector ...

Earplugs
Overall, three are in the process of Medium clamps already on the headset. All made of very soft, transparent silicone material, really wear comfortably and safely without uncomfortable to put pressure on the ear.
By the way, "earplugs" not quite right; there are more "earmolds". But Plantronics calls those things earplugs; So be it.

Earloop
The transparent ear hook can be anklippsen; how often he goes along with this without breaking, I would rather not know. To me, the Bügelchen ago as a makeshift solution; It's much easier and cheaper probably not. Still, he works at least with my ears perfectly.

Documentation
Mager. The Quick Reference Guide provides information on all two German sites about things that you always know when you're not completely stupid. Likewise, the leaflet for Ladeetui. Of course the thickest tome form the inane safety instructions that have as much to do with reality as promised while maintaining big campaign promises.

An average delivery; a bit unusual is the cigarette lighter adapter. Normally a power supply is; Here's just a car power adapter. Mag a fallen or not; I am annoyed about not because I have distributed countless USB power supplies throughout the house. Other people like that but think differently and wish a proper power supply included. Just as it also belongs in the price.
Cheap is not always horny, Plantronics!

Good news: No silly bag or ribbons, which always found really great, but will never be used. What for ...

The Headset
A chic, easy thing. Not so very elegant and unobtrusive as the disc 975 Very, but not far from it. If you compare it with the grotto ugly Jabra Supreme (of which I have two) compares: Behaves like Britney Spears at a young age to Angela Merkel in fearsome actual state.
So: Looks reasonable, is small and unobtrusive

Very important: charging via micro-USB standard connection. FINALLY! After Voyager Legend, in which you were so hollow at Plantronics, to build in a special charging connector which fits to nothing and thus a large part of potential customers vergrätzte, finally something you can always and everywhere to reload again. Otherwise I would not have bought it.

Saublöd: The Edge may A2DP, so audio streaming. And what is missing? Exactly: control buttons for media control.

For this good again: The Edge is not Disco Light Organ; it flashes and flickers not as deranged in use.

Comfort
The Edge sits great in the ear, at least in my. As Mr. Behrens also I have the ideal position of the earplug in 45-degree rotation found down: clean then easily turn into my ear, upwards. Budge, also flies in wild Kopfgeschüttel not the toilet, keeps standing, sitting, lying down.
And is comfortable to wear for hours on end, without great starts to push. Here you have found exactly the right mix silicone in an appropriate form: Soft and smooth, yet grippy.
With earhook, the Edge also contributes acceptable, stands with me also not on the head. But without holding it just as well. No comparison with the Jabra Supreme falling one in always lie from the ear.

VERY nice: Unlike ear canal headsets that are squeezed into the ear canal, you a) do not feel to be one-sided sealed off from the environment, saves b) the disgusting Ohrenschmalzgeschmiere. One can Edge so quiet sometimes give someone else without it disinfected afterwards or rather having to throw away the same. That including the perceived volume suffers a bit, is an acceptable compromise.

Couple
Plantronics is called the coupling "pairs". Excuse me, but who does not think of smut? ;) Crummy translator; as usual. We stick to "coupling".
The Edge to do either as usual with its Bluetooth partners known so into pairing mode enable, then have to search the mobile phone, select the device and ready. Or you can use the oh-so-great NFC functionality for people who have a clue about anything, and coupled it by touch. Does not a man (except perhaps typical Apple customer); but it's just. More one must not say.

If I keep it right, the Edge remembers up to eight coupling partner, may remain connected to two at the same time. Why only two simultaneous connections are possible, do not open up to me. I would like to use the Edge with three devices: my S4, my Z2 Tablet and my Siemens cordless phone. But do not go, since only two parallel connections are supported. WHY?
That seems to be all Bluetooth headsets so. Perhaps many manufacturers can simply count up only two ...
Completely incomprehensible to me that even when Plantronics top model with two connections is already closing.

Voice control
The Edge quasselt and listen to voice commands. The language you can choose, adjust the volume of the voice prompts. Voice commands are very well understood, much better than z. B. the Jabra Supreme, which we all must always several times and chew in Bölklautstärke.
Everything important is, it can also use everything without chatter by key operation.

Connection
Edge switch, the connection is basically immediately: Clicking the on / off switch is not yet died already shows the Bluetooth partner the established connection to. This is probably due to Bluetooth 4.0; so far I have never experienced a so so fixed connection.
Small restriction: The connection to the second Bluetooth device needs a little longer, one to three seconds.
The days when you still yawning waited for the connection finally stands before the TÜV expires, the Edge are so over.
There was also real-time ...

Accept and reject calls
That goes with the Edge in three different ways:
1) The Edge is around somewhere, the phone is yodeling: Just put into the ear; after one to two seconds, the Edge accepts the call automatically. Very convenient, very practical, and (unexpectedly) very reliable.
2) The Edge clamps already in the ear, the phone yelps: They say "Answer", the Edge takes a complete surprise to the call. If you do not feel like talking, they say "Ignore". Nothing new that's been around for years.
3) The Edge resides in the ear, the phone is ringing but you have turned off the answer via voice command per app: Then pushes you as usual the call control button (that's the Edge, the entire surface of the square part, squatting in the ear) and quasselt going. However, with two limitations:
- The key can be bes ****** n press reacts really just at the edge of the back, if you do not want to press the Edge to the brain itself.
- The Edge quasselt previously nor of possible voice commands, although the precaution abschaltete, the call takes only seconds after pressing a button on. Why, knows the Hangman. And even the unlikely.
To reject the call holding down the call control button. If one knows.

Callers are incidentally announced by moderately good speech synthesizer with names as long as the name stored in the contacts, and this function was not turned off by app. Also nothing special. Excessive power consumption during active name announcement I have not found the way. Perhaps the current firmware has brought something.

Make calls
As with other headsets: Press twice Call key throws to redial, press and hold the button launches the voice dialing, if your phone has mastered this because.

Sound
First things first: The Edge is sufficiently loud. It ill almost all other headsets; almost always the sound is too quiet. Also, the Edge could still tolerate a scales more but it is ok. So far, I experienced no situation in which the volume of the Edge was not sufficient. A lucky. The brute volume of Jabra Supreme however it can not keep up.

The Edge sounds passable, it telephoned very comfortable with it. But when streaming audio it is reaching its limits: Bass can (and should) not be expected, the frequency response is height emphasizes technical reasons, sounds a bit sharp, but can be offset by EQ. Natural truth audiophile arises not really, but the sound is acceptable, also makes for audiobooks a very pleasant character.
The automatic volume adjustment works perfectly, regulates as needed always to the right place.

The sound on the caller side can I bad judge, since we now use circumstantial evidence ...
I have plenty of phone calls to the Edge; in the mobile and the fixed network.
NEVER I was asked to take off the headset and make calls as normal. Never got with someone that I just in my (quite loud) car sat and tiled around, lurking in windy garden or the kitchen sizzled cheerfully steaks. NEVER someone complained about "metallic" sound or a "robot voice". NEVER I was asked to speak louder. Never got to the party that I phoned via headset. ALWAYS said it, I had the phone as normal to the ear.
That speaks a very clear language. That's the way it has to be.

Plantronics has apparently done everything right. I've never experienced before, that people did not complain at some point over the sound of a headset. When Edge came before a single time. Perfect.

Speech and load times
The Edge keeps the phone by a little more than five hours, with audio streaming are's about four hours. This is probably a bit on the Enfernung between mobile phone and headset.
The Edge is fully charged after a half hour, maybe a little faster. Likewise, the time it takes to fill the Ladeetui again with juice.

Reach
Very good. Among all my headset the Edge so far holds the record. It makes little sense to rant about exact distances, since these too depend on local conditions; Number, thickness, material and angle of the walls, for example.
In short, the Edge comes more than anything else I've tried, even surpassed the previous leader Jabra Supreme still a small eating.
Great!

This and that
I'm not a fan of excessive sensor and other equipment gimmick: The more features a device to fuss, the more usually fails.
Therefore, I eyed the Sensor Edge features very critical, was actually off right at the start.
Unnecessary concern: When attaching the Edge accepts calls or accepts a call from the mobile phone, continues audio streaming. When removing stops the audio streaming, the Edge releases the call back to the phone.
That worked so far always absolutely flawlessly, the Edge never attacked next. Pronounced practical; These are features that add real value and significant comfort offer even if initially not expecting.
As practically I feel the dual function of the voice command key on the bow of the Edge: If you hold the depressed, you can use it to start and stop audio streams. This turns out in practice to be quite useful, because they allow companies to bypass the slight delay when starting and stopping by donning and doffing.

Pros and cons
PRO
+ Excellent call quality on both sides
+ Discreet, serious appearance
+ Low weight
+ Good comfort for very secure grip
+ Good persistence of a little more than five hours
+ Really useful and practical sensor equipment
+ Furious faster connection
+ Download via Micro-USB standard connection

CONTRA
- Power supply missing
- No separate media control buttons (Why are the ever ???)
- Fully undurchdachtes, too big Ladeetui with too low battery capacity
- Only two simultaneous connections
- On / Off switch stiff, call control button can be bes ****** n Press
- High price

Conclusion
A good Bluetooth headset that absolutely convinces with its outstanding call quality. I do not write just like that: The Edge is the first and only headset, over which my interlocutors complained even once.

Yesterday I bought another Edge as a gift; this thing has so convinced me.

Star deduction because: High price, lean delivery, stupid Ladeetui, small hardware and software faults.
