Usually I watch a few review copies very closely, but in this case it was not possible: the DVD box comes 21 hours material therefore, divided into 200 lessons. So you get a lot on offer for your money. As I watched the first video, I immediately thought that was supposed to offer the Fernuni in Hagen. The Fernuni relies on "distant learning", and the video training meets this criterion perfectly and exemplary.
The producer of the box is Boris Gedat and he is not only Sun certified Java programmer, but also a trained multimedia trainers. Accordingly, the material is processed. Gedat patiently explained what is at stake, while you can on the screen at the same time can follow the code. From time to time, if a little more attention is required Gedat itself appears on the screen and explained in details. Thus, the material is good and fans will not be bored. Gedat does a good job, it feels like "pair programming" - that is programmed with a colleague.
The video training is ideal for anyone who wants to get into the language and possibly in general has not yet so much experience. Clearly part of the target audience of the box students who need to quickly take the first steps towards Java. The video tutorial treated by history to inner classes the most important basics. Open Source Press has the Box as a streaming version on its own website. This works quite well, but the player is still somewhat impractical (Mac, Chrome). So if a few euros more has left, can buy this box and then leave the next semester again at a good price to a fellow student - or keep, after all, you never know when you might have to start again with Java.
