The album is produced very versatile. It involves a series of genre that has long been missing at Mariah. These include jazz, soul-pop, dance-pop and even classical and R & B.
Here is a song by song analysis:
Oh Santa: The carillon with which the song begins, is outstanding. It has immediately pulled me in its spell. For the first time in a long time Mariah finally presents us again a fast upbeat song.
O Little Town of Bethlehem / O Little Drummer Boy: For this, you can actually find the words. First the idea of both songs is merge awesome. In addition, the production is reminiscent of gospel songs. The background vocals is rousing and wide. Viewed from Mariah's voice here, the song starts quietly and then formed from a vocal fireworks, where one only listens amazed. Mariah's voice is crystal clear and powerful. The music is supported by an outstanding flute and massive orchestration.
Christmas Time Is in the Air Again: Is one of Mariah rewritten song that sounds incredibly Christmassy. The production is so soulful and yet classic, that you think the song would it have at least 50 years. Mariah's vocal color also doing their part to make this song incredibly effective. The massive orchestration also supports this impression.
The First Noel / Born is the King: the song starts with a very nice piano playing. Mariah sounds here again very soulful and created an incredible atmosphere just by the tone of her voice. Towards the end of The First Noel, she flies back to vocal excellence up. The real highlight of this song is the short Interlude Born is the King that has been converted to an R & B song. Many will probably think that R & B has no place on a Christmas album, but here it's just extremely well done. The atmosphere of Born is the King is more supported by the production.
When Christmas Comes: Sounds as though Mariah already recorded it for her album Emancipation. The production is very like Fly Like a Bird or Subtle Invitation, there has also been working here with live instruments. Overall, one can describe the song as a midtempo, but the 70's Retro-Soul production makes the song into a face-off tip.
Here come Santa Claus: If a pimped R & B Song, as we know it from Mariah. You can hear in the background his JD ünlichen verbal Yeah's and Oh's talk, but the song is fun because it's so wild and good mood spread.
Carlie Brown Christmas: is an absolute highlight, because the song contains the melody of the Peanuts. Mariah makes then with her Gesnag from the jazzy number that she has sung since The Wind.
O Come All Ye Faithful / Hallelujah: Here you can find the best vocal performance that Mariah in the last 10 years has delivered. The production is classic by the piano and orchestral accompaniment towards the end. Unique is the Bridge when Patricia Carey sings the classic version of Hallelujah and so incredibly gives the song a lot of depth and vocal quality. Incredibly the song is but not until Mariah from the background with a High Note again takes over the vocals. Mariah sings with full, crystal-clear voice, as you have it for a long time not seen. The musical accompaniment is richitg to the point.
O Holy Night: Is a live version of the song that gives it already since 2000. Although the song is old, you have to say that the live version is incredibly strong sung. Here, too, the vocal finale with High Note represents the culmination of the song.
One Child: Is probably the best self-creation of the album and certainly one of the best songs that Mariah has written for a long time. Piano and orchestra let the music itself are large, a background choir the song gives additional depth. Located with One Child Mariah also finally of the beat ballads that have determined over the past 5 Years Your Music.
All I want for Christmas is You (Extra Festive): for this song one needs not much left to say. The new intro is beautiful and gives the song a bit Dinsey flair. The voice sounds almost like the 1994th
Auld Lang Syne: Mariah sings the entire song on full chest voice. The special thing is that it starts classically and then turns into a dance track. The beat and the intelligent melodies makes it certainly a highlight of the album.
Overall, it must be said that MCIIY is contemplative and was fun. The productions are classic, underpinned by a strong soul and jazz elements and show that Mariah if she want, still can make incredibly good albums. Moreover, what (perhaps rightly) criticized, her voice returned to an impressive comeback.
