The glass is (on a D610), a real all-rounder. It is thanks to a restless Bokeh and low light intensity (bleating at a high level) definitely not a portrait or artificial lens. The AF is not quite as fast as at 24-70, but afloat. Nevertheless, it is out of action and co in my opinion.
BUT .. and it is thanks to VR (the really great works) and large zoom range + for excellent imaging characteristics a great device for press photography and / or everyday photography. If it is adjusted to the camera first (AF), it is very sharp, also offenblendig. The above-mentioned Bokeh is actually restless, but also can have a positive effect in images (Is not everything still life).
Conclusion: Class part I do not want to miss. In Nikon FX segment of flexibility and reliability unique. The problem with the zoom ring is present, annoying (-1 Stern) and in everyday AF operation I do not care. However, it is clear that it was built for a specific purpose. A successful compromise between image quality and flexibility.
