Funny might not be the correct word to describe the way this book begins - rather, intriguing in a very British way. However, de initial excentric setting Quickly gives way to the protagonist's haunted character and our heros vain attempt to get to grips with his past as a soldier in Iraq. I wonder where Paul Torday got his knowledge from about "private security companies" in Iraq. His account is so realistic as if he himself had been there. This, HOWEVER, does not seem possible. Yet he must have good sources. A Book That begins on the light side and ends on the dark side, leaving the reader with at uneasy feeling.
