I took time to get into that type of equipment, and I do not regret that first purchase, you have to search a bit to parametrage via CHIRP, but once initiated, this procedure reveals the strength of this type of device. I did not have too much trouble to recreate a mini network with Doro WT87. I did not test in flat area the scope of these devices, but I managed a junction in dense urban areas about. 1.5 kms. To be continued but fun and it was for me the goal
