First of all, the unit is very user-friendly. On the back of the remote control there is a complete letter keyboard. Can work very well with Android 4. The basic installation worked very well, the manual requires you to be as good as not. While it is quite thick and written in German, but it does not answer the really interesting questions. My pros and cons here once summarized:
Pro:
- Built-in very good satellite tuner
- Many connection possibilities for eg external hard drive, mouse and PC keyboard (USB) with a total of 3 USB ports!
- SD card reader (not tested)
- App Store as in the Android mobile phone
- Capable of accommodating received TV shows on hard drive
- WiFi and LAN connection to the network possible
- Downloadable from the device app for mobile phones, so you can use the phone as a remote control - so cool!
Cons:
- The establishment of the unit as a media player for a media server (in my NAS with DLNA Media Server on-base) is not completely trivial, but possible with external app,
- WLAN connections are not stable, also not automatically rebuilds, videos then not run smoothly,
- In case of power loss the unit will not self again (power strip with switch), it must always be awakened from sleep again
- PVR (recording a TV broadcast on the hard drive) has been tested with a FAT32 formatted drive. Problem: Larger than 2 GB must file in FAT32 not be. Other (Comag-) devices take here simply in a second file further on. This equipment then stop recording at easy. Although you can hang like an ext2 or ext3 formatted disk, if you want to cut then but under Windows, you can not. (Maybe something changes with an update)
- The hardware seems to be overall too slow. The boot takes forever and you can see a very long time a boot screen on the TV on before the device answers ready
- Power does not come to a successful start on TV, but a welcomed to the Android home menu. The TV app you must select only then.
- If a station is recording (PVR) can be carried out no channel change - Comag Other devices can, if only in the same polarization (logically)
As a result, it's actually a great idea for a universal TV with satellite tuner. The idea excited me and there are many great innovations. Unfortunately, the device is not really mature. For a reliable and quick use of a media player (for a Media Server) better and faster hardware appears to be necessary. However, some (of my) deficiencies have also been rectified with an update.
Too bad, I was looking forward to the device in the living room, but after a justified protest my family and also my own judgment, I regret to send it back and look around for another alternative for a media streamer.
