Due to the relatively small sensor itself for a camera system can be reached using the supplied in expensive kit lenses both a focal range covering virtually all situations of 27mm to 297mm (crop factor X2.7) mm camera equivalent. The initial light intensity in the wide angle is quite good with 3.5 but not tip. Incidentally, there is also a "Super Zoom" Nikon 1 NIKKOR VR 10-100 mm 1: 4.5-5.6 PD-Zoom lens black, the whole saving the changing lenses. However, at a handsome price. The still slightly better picture quality you have with the 2 lenses.
Image Quality
For good or moderate lighting conditions the images very well and with a DSLR (the lower price range) are comparable. The images are color-balanced with low tendency in the cool (Canon has more of a warm image characteristics) and act colorfast. The edge enhancement is rather more pronounced. Furthermore, there is a tendency to set the images more brightly.
One can (not 100!) To 6400 Preset in the current levels in the menu, and certain areas with a maximum value, ie ISO 800, 3200 and 6400. The camera tends ISO settings of 160 - because of possible Verwacklungsgefahr- 1/60 sec to keep exposure time and on quite fast high ISO values to. From ISO 800 already comes the first image noise. ISO 1600 is already problematic. Furthermore, you can see at slow shutter speeds so from 1/2 sec in darker areas even at ISO 100 light color noise similar to high-quality compact cameras. This noise performance results from the rather small sensor.
With self-definable picture styles, where you can preset smoothing, contrast, color saturation etc. in the menu, a particular visual style you can specify just like a DSLR before shooting automatically. Here I would take back the sharpening somewhat.
Cropping objects, such as faces, etc. is, of course, quite limited with the small image sensor. The bokeh (blurred background at full aperture to indemnify objects) could still be a lot richer and more balanced when you crop. This can be achieved but as a rule only with much more expensive lenses.
Since JPEGs and Raw images are possible, can you photos afterwards profoundly still improve / change. However, recognizes and processes, for example Lightroom Nikon NEF not. For this you need the software on the supplied CD.
The autofocus is very fast, fail especially in bright light and is also easily multiple faces automatically in the motif. One can choose a multi-range focus, where the camera will search groups of focal points themselves or provide a focus in the center, with which you then deliberately sets etc. focus on a face. You can manually move the focus but not to the side when the main subject is not in the center. If the camera detects a face, it may also be on the screen.
Practically, the small built-in flash, whose brightness can be controlled well in the menu. He has a similar strength as a compact camera. He is just as opposed to cameras that need a separate flash, to save space, really always there.
Film
HD movies is 30 frames or 60 fields and a flicker, which can be adjusted for 50 Hz or 60 Hz mains. This is something unusual on the setting forth. 24 images in the SG Cinema mode does not go. If you want to have small movie files, also in Resolution 720 in full- or half-images.
One can pretend etc. within limits as when photographing ISO settings, aperture, speed, white balance. At 50 Hz flicker is 1/100 sec for the longest time setting. The picture quality is good with fast occurring noise indoors. Also, the white balance is not always optimal with Abdrfiten in the "yellow". The focus moves the zoom very well with, recognizes faces and performs the focus here specifically looking for. The films have the great depth of field no particular "cinema character" (blurred background during heavy main object) as possible with a DSLR.
Very well suitable both kit lenses for filming or the 10mm prime lens. Due to the decreasing light intensity of the two lenses with increasing Zoom you can see a light flickering, if you change the focal length greatly.
The sound via built-Micro is very clear stereo and without any camera sounds.
Service
There is no touch screen or wifi to transfer / camera control on tablets. The screen is sharp and easy to read font. You can adjust the brightness over a wide range. However, there is no automatic brightness control of the display depending on the ambient light. In addition, the otherwise good display at high ISO values clear color noise, so that one bit and detects a white balance is no longer possible. The expandable mesh is relatively bright and strong and makes the image a bit confusing. See sample photos under customer images. An electronic level does not exist. The electronic viewfinder is bright and sharp.
Unfortunately, the image may not zoom in on the display electronically (usual, factor x5 and x10), for example, to check the sharpness of focus.
Clear arrangement of keys with clear, quite long menu, but without unnecessary nesting. A shortcut key displays relatively few but important settings which can be selected on an additional rotary knob at the top. One has to operate so quickly on it. It's worth it because even well to take a look at the well-crafted book printed manual. In addition, detailed instructions next to the image editing software is included on CD.
The camera is to be held by the handle right and good has on the back a roughened area to increase the handiness.
The battery is quite durable and should hold a photo day quite well. The original replacement battery is very expensive. The charger features (for foreign travel virtually) an English plug to which the German is plugged. These push-on connection is mechanically but then hard again separated.
The two lenses erfreulicherweiset is a sun visor that fits both.
With the rather expensive Nikon FT1 mount adapter you can use already existing Nikon lenses, eg of a DSLR. With Tamron AF 70-300mm 4-5.6 Di VC USD SP digital lens for Nikon, which I otherwise use the Nikon D90 DSLR, you get here 300mm x 2.7 = 810mm (!) Focal length. So for Tierfilmer a super low-budget solution. It is recommended because of the high focal length outside at least a monopod, as the excellent Manfrotto fluid video monopod 560B-1 with Neiger 234RC.
The Nikon GP-N100 GPS receiver (geotags) for V1 Black would be best, of course, already installed. For Travel highly recommended. He is very small and light, does not need an extra battery (without the built-burdening too much) and works very well even on cloudy days.
Resumee
The camera has many uses and with the two lenses for a very wide range of focal lengths. Modern, integrated equipment features, such as touch screen, WiFi, GPS missing. There is a good electronic viewfinder. The picture quality is very good if you
