The Tab 7 comes in a unspectacular box in which you find yourself still a USB power adapter (5.2 V, 1350 mA), a microUSB cable and a multilingual Quick Start Guide in addition to the device.
The housing is made on the back mostly of thin aluminum, at the top and the bottom of plastic. The upper part of the back can be - similar to a smartphone - with your fingernail to pry, to insert a SIM card and possibly a microSD card. The unit is meticulously crafted. The look is appropriate for the price range, acts despite aluminum insert on the housing but overall not particularly high. Disturbing, I find that the back is too slick to grip the tablet safely in every situation. In addition, the lens of the rear-side camera whopping two millimeters from the back wall stands out. This one would like to put the Tablet neither hard nor very sensitive surfaces.
After a simple setup procedure to users welcomed a moderately modified Android home screen. Also Acer packs quite a bit of bloatware not uninstallable on the tablet. After all, you can most of it via Settings -> Apps -> Disable All, so it (except for the space) no longer interferes.
The display is one of the entry-level definitely the better. The 'small' HD resolution of 1280x800 belongs here now standard, but color reproduction, contrast and black level are surprisingly good, the angular dependence low. In my view, the display is the greatest strength of the tab 7. The brightness is good, and disturbances caused by reflections are limited. Compared to the sister model Iconia One 7 (with Intel Atom Z2560 CPU and without UMTS) the screen just in the last two points is clearly better.
Unfortunately disappointing is the overall performance of Tab 7, especially if you previously had a one 7 in his hands. Installing Apps runs comparatively sluggish. As a significant disadvantage, I feel also that the tab 7 as opposed to 7 One of my HD video plays only slightly jerky.
The battery life is not bad - HD video playback at full screen brightness keeps the tab 7 for about five hours by.
The built-in cameras are for Skype or documentation purposes in order. The main camera on the back produces consistent quality at the level of very simple compact cameras. Videos from the Tab 7 appear rough and restless. Here one should in this price range, of course, do not expect too much, and photo / video is now time not a typical application for a tablet.
The Tab 7 is the PC (here: Windows 7 64-bit) integrated directly via USB as a smart phone, so you have direct access to the internal memory and an inserted microSD card. Encouraging the regular transfer rates to and from the internal memory, on my PC with about 27 MB / s read and 17MB / s write.
WiFi and cellular reception are quite good. Making calls with the Tab 7 also without headset - as a kind of giant smartphone - although possible in acceptable quality. Given the unfavorable ergonomics do you do that but only in an emergency.
Conclusion
If you are looking for a compact, affordable tablet with its own wireless connection and a good display is more important than the system performance, the tab 7 is an option.
Without mobile connectivity offers the sister model Iconia One 7 In my view, the better overall package and with its rubberized back in the handling much more comfortable.
Overall, I can only give a limited recommendation and three stars ***.
