The softcover book has a logical structure and stringent written, this beautifully designed and high quality. The print quality is excellent - a must for the countless, very good photographs of old bursts. Bacon conveys in his book an extensive demolition of the birth of Les Paul Sunburst into the 50s through to the Collector's Choice reissues known Sunburst at the beginning of the 2010s. Just the hype about the infamous '59 Les Pauls some famous guitarist Tony Bacon captures skillfully by musicians like Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, Slash or Joe Bonamassa wonderfully installs in the chronology of the story and some interesting anecdotes.
Tony Bacon is a real information hamster as an author. As the rodent also, he has diligently all (already published somewhere) information and stories researched and documented the important details with clean sources. However, this approach is also the way most damning criticism, because as in many of his earlier books, Tony Bacon limited to gather well-known information and assemble everything fits. He scrapes although in many places on the surface, but does not tell a new or deeper stories about. This somewhat superficial way of information delivery is the right place for a layman. An expert on the subject burst lures Tony Bacon so but at most put forth only a tired smile. Insufficient "aha moments" provides the title on its 144 pages.
Overall a very decent tracks on Les Paul Sunburst with beautiful pictures, a great design and good (albeit only "warmed") stories. Bacon gives a good overview, but disappointed in the depth of information the connoisseur. Price and performance are in a healthy relationship.
