The noise level is moderate: When you insert a disc and Scanning Programmes can perceive sounds that are not pushy but. Merely select chapters or by order (for example, during MP3 playback) is done completely silent. Right before you start playing you can hear a sound, then the sense of the listener / viewer, however, are already focused on the image and / or sound, so that noise just less noticeable. This is made clever: Apparently the read head to the selected chapter or folder is not moved on the disk (and it is this movement is due to physical reasons not completely silent) when the playback button is pressed. If you select only about chapter 2, then chapter 5, then chapter 3, the read head first is going nowhere. Only then, when you press Play, the read head to Chapter 3 goes (makes up a sound) and playback starts. Some other players (eg Panasonic DMP-BDT364 / 365), the read head passes after selecting each chapter immediately to the appropriate position on the disc and does this just perceptibly, in this particular case it is therefore 3x to noise, instead of just once, as at Sony.
But there are also weaknesses:
(1) No display on the device itself, so the TV actually has to run with always, even when you want to hear only one CD on a receiver / amplifier connected separately. This is a grandiose waste of energy: Extra 60-200 W, depending on the television, only to see, which runs straight title. Therefore, for me a clear NOGO, even if the music playback is certainly not the main purpose of a Blue-Ray player. The same applies of course to any other player without display to and is therefore an opinion on this system or operating concept, and not for players in the strict sense.
(2) The device is connected to a 12V power supply, for a separate power supply is included. This is at least somewhat impractical.
(3) The remote control is somewhat small.
(4) The design is - as usual - a matter of taste. I personally does not want to open up the meaning of "negative camber" on the front and side lines. Despite the intended design effektheischenden top of the housing, the finish is not perfect and disseminated rather PlayStation feeling. But, as I said, that's a matter of taste and you can live with. Something designed conventional example is the Panasonic DMP-BDT364 / 365, but really with a perfect finish (jointless front section with automatic flap).
Note: The unit is only 28 cm wide (not 36 cm, as indicated on Amazon).
A BUY recommendation, if you want to always use the device in conjunction with the TV monitor (if that is the energy-efficient playback of audio CDs no application is). It does exactly what it should and is acoustically inconspicuous. Because of (1) and (2) are the bottom line 4 points.
