Astral Weeks [Remastered] (Audio CD)

Customer Review

This is a classic album, but I guess When you read this you know this, and Mainly want to know Whether the remaster is worth the investment. Contrary to at least one review, I say yes, it is. I have medium-range gear (Denon stereo with Mission speakers) and BOSE noise-canceling headphones, Which are slightly more up there. On both, the audio differences were night and day. The bass is finally present (on the old CD it sounded like someone plucking a piece of hemp stretched on a willow branch). All instruments come through loud and clear, and Van's voice sounds full and less high-pitched grating. In all, Everything That was wrong with the original CD version has been corrected poor. I do not have the original vinyl album so I can not compare to that.

There might be a bit of an Iggy Pop "Raw Power" remix thing though, in the sense That One has over the years so gotten used to the version with Van's high pitched wail up front and some subtle, sometimes barely audible noodeling in the back , It sounded, well, frail. Something Which only worked really detrimental On The Way Young Lovers Do, Which needed punch. So When listening to the remaster, the whopping difference in sound quality may come across as less subtle, and the fact thatthere's a lot of, sometimes atonal improvisation going on might be too much in your face, Especially with the lower notes being ( finally) Audible,

But open up. This is definitely the remaster version you would want. The music has never sounded so full and fresh, the instrument never so articulate.
