Logitech Harmony 350 remote control (accessory)

Customer Review

The remote itself is useful basically. But nothing more.

The "Software" which one is needed for programming an absolute nightmare.
But first the positives first: You can assign any key to any remote x-arbitrary (which must of course support) program. Thus, one does not have to change the device to be used for frequently used functions of different devices (such as television and receiver). Just after that I wanted namely.

That's very good, but only in theory. The practice costs a then a few gray hairs to a few years of life.

Okay, the profile of the 350 will be stored online at Logitech. Can you make, should not be so, but you can live with it. Seriously, basically it does not matter where the profile is stored. A permanent online connection is today really standard (although that will always be not as depicted by critics).
But (and this "but" it has in itself), the remote control has a USB connection with the computer have. Actually, a matter of course. However, the remote control constantly loses the connection. And much more remarkable to program individual keys with another remote, the 350 must also have a USB connection. Actually, would only be necessary if you are done with the programming and then wants to store via PC in the Logitech-Cloud.
But even that could cope with as I said, if the connection would be stable.

Here is the process, how such a program in practice runs:

You choose the software program the key to be programmed and click "Add command or show" on. Danac gives you the new command a meaningful name and click on "next". Now wants the program that the remote control is connected via a USB cable. You have foolishly the cable already plugged into the PC and the remote control followed by a Umsteck marathon at this point. At least three times must be switched on and plugged in the cable again. The best one changes the USB ports on your PC (the drivers should have been but already installed for each socket). While Windows itself then connects with the remote control, the software is but no matter. The have to be persuaded by the repeated plugging until now.
Now you can finally program the button. This works very smoothly.

One should of course not forget that you have been added just a new command. A key is thus not yet but occupied. Forgetting that can end very ugly.

But let's say, the orders were all assigned to each key (you do by clicking on an extended Buton) and then you have the saved, so you have now only transmit itself this just programmed profile on the remote control.
This works by synchronizing that one (top right) starts with a click on the yellow button "Synchronize". And yes, you guessed hats, to benötigtman already known USB connection again.
This time, but it looks good. The connection is always found and everything seems to run fine. Until then the progress bar remains unusually long at 99%. Well, sometimes it takes just a little. But then after about one minute then a message saying that the USB connection (which you need to start the synchronization at all) does not exist. One should nevertheless the cable and plug it again after a few seconds. And you should make sure that the Harmony Remote Software is not running, as this may interfere with the process.
Here I was the first time really puzzled. The software that you use needs to bother precisely the software that you need to use? However, here the offline software for older Harmony devices (such as the Harmony 555) seem to be meant.
Anyway, also repeatedly plugging the USB cable can not complete the synchronization. One must, willy-nilly cancel.

A new synchronization does not also. Only when the program is restarted starts the synchronization process again. Without restarting the program does not do anything if you click on the button.
Now you have then the chance that everything runs smoothly and the remote control actually synchronized.
However, this is not the case, then it may well be that the synchronization is done anyway, even though the program itself is stuck at 99%. Since you have a fifty-fifty chance.

Another point that I noticed is if you want to assign a key with a similar command as (for example ChannelUp and DirectionUp) is already programmed on this key remains the sync button and blue is not yellow. The software is therefore of the opinion that you have indeed saved again the profile, but that will have no effect on the remote control. And therefore it is the software that synchronization is unnecessary and will start this either.

Remedied by programming the desired button with a completely different command to add then the previously similar sounding command.
Of course it comes likewise to the above-described synchronization problems.

If you have found out that everything now, it may even be that you can not assign a button a command in love with strangers. The button "Assign" remains grayed out. Here actually only helped to reset the remote control at me. Also with the described synchronization problem.

If you have that then everything behind, then the remote control actually works as desired.

However, you have to make in the remote control for a few compromises.
One of them is the key drop. That's pretty high. This gives the operator an easy indirect touch.
Another shortcoming is the lack of lighting the buttons. This is not a true must-have, but it would be nice already.
Nevertheless, each time the button for the device will light up when you press a different key. So you at least know the look, which device is addressed (because it has no effect on the device itself shows). So relieved a possible troubleshooting.

Overall, I am satisfied with the remote control at this price. She does what she is and above all, you can see the buttons with completely different functions of different devices to program, so you have niccht cycle through the devices. In addition, it has enough keys that can be programmed. For the price this is a buy rating.
The software for programming, however, is a disaster. And not just for inexperienced PC users.

The actual 4 stars, I would give the remote control alone, however, the software will cost two of them. So I can only give 2 stars.
With better software would significantly more in here.
