The recording of the trio of the Munich State Opera in July 2001 is of the highest quality ECM. The piano is adequately mixed to the front, without being too dominant, Peacocks bass and DeJohnette's drums make a nice groove carpet, on which the master can let off steam. Six items are included on the CD, including five standards and (in addition to a Jarrett intro to "I Can not Believe That You're In Love With Me") a Jarrett-own composition, namely the nearly 20-minute title track. This title, "The Out-of-Towners," is a complicated initiated, but then damn cool blues, put in the mainly Jarrett and DeJohnette their special mastery test. Some breaks and playful tricks ensure that the track will never get bored, although he is dahingewummert about as long duration in the same rhythm. A real highlight, but which is topped by the fantastic solo performance of "It's All In The Game" as the final piece. Otherwise provides, "The Out-of-Towners" the usual interpretations of popular standards such as the rather calmer "You've Changed" or the groovy "Five Brothers". Apart from a few as yet belonged solos all is well known and solid trio average. In the superior class of the three musicians and their almost blind understanding of the interaction "average" means, however, a very high value! The two mentioned Highlights tip the scales for the five stars.
