Ballaké Sissoko appears here solo (but not always lonely, see line-up) and, under the benevolent leadership of his friend yesterday but still today partner, Vincent Segal, he produced music that, for be closer to her Malian roots than Chamber Music offered us, not least in developing its own grammar, its own universe in a dreamy soundscape where the notes of his kora sparkle like shooting stars.
Intimate, spiritual and, of course, deeply rooted in their African roots, At Peace compositions of the place soothed and invigorating experience of a music pushing for contemplation and meditation. A rare proposal that stressed-out city dwellers are sure to grasp. And a great extra surprise from the decidedly critical label No Format!
