Grand 12-Inches 1 - A great dancefloor Collection

When I examined the CDs of the legendary "Soul Show" of Dutch DJs Ferry Maat, I am relatively quickly encountered the series "Grand 12-Inches" by Ben Liebrand. Only the cover reads like a Who's Who of contemporary soul and disco world! And we're not talking about the cheap disco stuff which is sold to us on numerous 80 or 30+ parties. (-> Why on such events totally undeterred RnB, Soul & Funk of the 80 concealed ??)
No - at the Grand 12-Inches "there is the dance floor tracks that have moved us, the really" cool "and were finally paved the way for today's Soul, RnB, Hip Hop and House.

Both sound quality and selection of the tracks on this CD are just great. Here Ben Liebrand has once again proven his knack! He has not used any remixes, but mostly used the original 12 version of the former hits. The 40 items are distributed on 4 CDs. On CD1 are some "steam hammer" to hear that are considered forerunners of today's electronic dance music. On CD2 there are classics like "Good Times" by CHIC and the fact-based rapper Delight "by the Sugarhill Gang, the founding fathers" of the Rap. Furthermore, bribe cult songs like Indeep's "Last Night A DJ ...", but also "Lovers Holiday" of CHANGE with the awesome-cool bassline. CD 3 begins with the unforgettable '80s hit You're The One For Me "by D-TRAIN CD 4 reflects more the early 90s again Unforgettable:.." Finally "or" Show Me Love ".

Many of the tracks on this compilation are hard to get today, let alone in the 12-inch versions. Even then it was difficult to acquire such music in Germany. The road to the neighboring Netherlands was the only way to get the coveted Maxi-Single ". Fortunately, this has changed a little in the late 80's and Germany was open for these musical styles.

Conclusion: Grand 12-inches is a better than average set of soul, funk and disco hits mainly the 70s and 80s. The tracks are selected with care and not carelessly thrown together (which, unfortunately, often on different compilations of case). As the name of the series suggests, it is exclusively the long versions of each title and not the abbreviated "3-minute single-design" In addition, the extremely good sound quality is convincing. The relatively high price into perspective by the 40 tracks on a total of 4 CDs. For the fan of the genre a real collector's item!
In this sense: keep on movin 'and groovin'!
