Grandiose film music in opulent sound quality

About Miklós Rózsa (1907-1995) one really does not need to say much, he still is one of the greats in his field: A Hungarian prodigy who could already read music before it learned letters, a very solid training in Germany was (music studies at the Leipzig Conservatory by chance came to film music in Reger pupil Hermann Grabner) and after several compositions for the concert hall.

For the equally monumental composition, where he had worked for a year, Rózsa won his third Oscar (his life, he was nominated for a total of 16 Oscars). The partly religious, partly foreign-Oriental atmosphere and the equally brutal as triumphant world of ancient Rome are always musically profound the composer, but doing so incisively and vividly set out in opulent sounds that additional movie pictures hardly needs to understand the action.
