Basically convinced me that Hue system with its simplicity and tremendous flexibility. The lamps are quickly ready and can be controlled using the app. Particularly noteworthy is the openness of the system, because there are numerous and very good third-party apps, and generally an API. This allows almost limitless control options including IFTTT, Tasker or even own scripts (for example, there is a Python library - Phue). Let your Hue lights flash when new emails, the temperature can be displayed as color, program a separate morgentlichen sunrise and so on. Great.
Now, however, the color-enabled Hue Bulbs itself. The brightness of the lamps is excellent in my opinion and also the white depiction of cold via neutral to heat is very finely adjustable and well. However, a good color representation is being sacrificed on the altar, as they may know of LivingColors lamps or Friends of Hue devices. While blue, red, purple and other shades are well represented, you have to give as much as possible to green. Because the lamp generates barely a light green to yellow tending, but nothing more. Also cyan tones in vain and ends up closer to cold white. In general there is a lack in the color spectrum on range between yellow and cyan. As an illustration I have included a short video showing the lamp in color change mode. Here one recognizes the strengths and weaknesses in my opinion well. The light banding at the expense of my smartphone.
I was so surprised by this shortcoming that I kept my copy for defective. But at the latest after the second replacement bulb I realized that this behavior must be intentional. While me this lack of greens has initially disturbed enormously, so outweigh Meanwhile, however, the positive aspects. To illuminate a room, these bulbs are ideal. They deliver in everyday use a good brightness and will probably be used as a rule in the mainly white color spectrum. For a splash of color every now and then the lamps are also sufficiently flexible and abgsehen the green area, I am also very pleased with the rest of the color reproduction. Who wants more saturated colors, should take up, although less luminous color but powerful Friends of Hue models.
As for the build quality, as I noticed in one of three pears a clearly audible Fieben and totals, as it was already described in other reviews. If a bulb is these noises, they should be replaced. It seems, unfortunately, to give tangible fluctuations in product quality, depending on the production you are caught. In this context, I also had contact with the Philips Support, where you advised me fast, friendly and reliable.
All in all the lamps for me, despite the initial disappointment a great automation possibility and make it possible to create many different moods. In addition, they are also suitable for daily use by the differentiated white spectrum and its brightness. To control I would highly recommend one of the many third-party apps, the house Philips app has micht unconvinced. I would certainly not want to miss the Hue system and so also the color lamps.
