First impression: The charm of a small island

Harry, a young man who has spent several years abroad, returns to his childhood home. There lives the repellent acting Miss Otery which is drafted as a housekeeper. But quickly noticed Harry, that the old lady conceals him something, and he urges her until she tells the story of a family that had lived there several years ago and which has taken a terrible fate ...

By Maryrose the horrors has taken another, almost classic to be named horror story about an old house into the program, but Maryrose of James Matthew Barrie has a decisive gimmick that puts everything in a very different light. The atmosphere built up in the walls that the same has a mysterious and sinister aura extends from the aforementioned intro scene through the entire narrative, in the flashbacks and time jumps slowly put together a complete picture over and over again. The focus is Mary Rose, which wafts a dark secret, and the same at different stages of their lives. In between getting a few years, of which the listener learns nothing, and also the real mystery of the story is left completely open, hardly a note highlights its dissolution. I like that very much because the wonderful, tragic mood of the tiny Scottish island is further enhanced. At the end of the episode we come full circle, and even if the resolution is not quite as surprising, this is very insistent, telling emotional and painful quite wonderful!

The speakers are almost by default excellent when Gruselkabinett, but here they have fallen with particularly well because they support all of these scary-tragic mood - especially the magnificent Luisa Wietzorek, the very expressive speaks as Mary Rose with her gentle, melancholy voice in especially the last scene reacted absolutely fantastic. Timmo Niesners unusual sound fits very well with the role of Harry, he skillfully and with the necessary seriousness sets the scene and always hits the right note. As Simon, Mary Rose 'fiancé and later husband, is spoken by Axel Malzacher, he fits perfectly the prevailing sentiment. Other speakers include Kerstin Sanders-Dornseif, Frank-Otto Schenk and Monica Bielstein.

When it comes to acoustics, this episode right up there and creates a very haunting, dense atmosphere. For the numerous interwoven pieces of music which are usually to be heard during the dialogues and the melodic meander around the action, supported by numerous noise and some whispered words provide. Everything together makes a very harmonious overall picture, in which one can be completely covered.

The Scottish island, which occupies such an important role in the radio drama is also addressed on the cover, with the dark waters, mountains and trees it is very good effect. The focus, however, is the feengleiche face that seems to float in the sky and its deep blue color adopted and melancholic look on the island. The lonely girl standing on the beach, this is already under almost.

Conclusion: An excellent result which pleased me exceptionally well. Always is a dark, melancholy mood exists that connects the various levels of time together and became very successful and rich application says. In particular, the resolution is very well done and told emotionally.
