I have already rumgeärgert with any original batteries of different devices and bin
for 10 years on "Mignon" as the preferred battery source.
When the SB-900 there is no other way, I have annoyed me as well on several occasions (a stupid machine! The battery can not help it).
In battery grip, I think not only felt but Field-tested the AA solution for better than the House eigenene Li-Ion EN-EL3a solution.
Scientifically measured, it is difficult to the makes IMHO also no one really.
Correct Chargers qualified meaningful cost several hundred euros.
Not only economically but also from the time and cost consuming aspects

My equipment is a lot, thus all temperature ranges, from trailing Desert (dark car in the summer) to the refrigerator (winter / outdoor).
The manufacturers supply unfortunately only bundles in 2 or 4 lots, thus I had to decide at some point and have the Sanyo types bought later repeatedly, why?
As fast alternatives yet Conrad NMH 2500 mAh and 2700 mAh HyCell came into the contest.
My charger can measure the capacitance and refreshen that HyCell come to 2500mAh, the Conrad at 2300 mAh, everything is ok - as part but for me not really crucial.
The Sanyo have few outliers, I have a set of 6 really on 2800 mAh "conditioned" but even that is not the biggest plus.
Batteries are semiconductors, tolerances of 30-50% are in the nature of things.
With 4 or 6 in series always chooses the weakest link of the chain, ergo the weakest
Cell pulls down the whole block.
The "pairs" of 4 or 6 is very complex, it needs min. 10 charging cycles and different charging methods.
I always couples 2 to 4, make sure that the cell "at the same time" fully are (imho a sign of the same capacity) charging ALWAYS with 700mAh. (I'm in a hurry and in my view does the battery well)
The Conrad types are actually not bad, because all my batteries after conditioning have about 2400mAh. The refresh with capacitance measurement takes the way for 3 days.
Even better are the HyCell 2700 mAh, as they overheat in the SB-900 is less easily.
The battery is good for me but the Sanyo HR6!
I could not detect any noticeable self-discharge, even after a week night not shaded. There will be less - clear, but better than the other types.
By tolerance I had very few outliers, both upwards and downwards.
The "pairs" worked here the fastest, the overheating "felt" the least,
the longest endurance, the power loss is a straight line (extremely positive for me).
If I'm a block in the knee, I can not work in the worst case.
My 2 blocks, one of 4 and 6 can be the fastest shop, the blocks have the greatest stability (capacity and performance is important here but not in the first place).
When flashes and shoot you are quick (alone the one can only be felt, write down never measured) and last the longest.
When stocking up I notice no signs of aging, but there are now several Shrink Tubing / coatings. I buy that I already have, there may be other batches?
The band of HyCell is still slightly better (the last asterisk therefore missing), which is the worst of Conrad.
Is my only gripe, the shrink tubing could be something qualitative,
the color scheme does not please me, but the things stuck inside yes.
(White cells can be numbered, not beautiful, but practical.
The price is Sanyo lets in 2 or 4 Pack buy more and also again in a
Team (6 series) integrate) and then conditioning the entire pack.
My chargers (3 same types) can unfortunately only 4 simultaneously invite stupid at 6
Piece for the battery grip.
