In direct comparison to the 555 558 plays on something round and high, sharp tones are not as concise. (For example, in the intro of "Run" the group "Air"). That's my opinion, but already in the range of subtle nuances that can only be heard in a direct comparison. When I saw the package, I was a bit surprised to read there "bass-driven sound," but this fear has not proved to be true: The bass seem well integrated and not overemphasized and boomy, unlike for example in "Toy headphones" as the Beatz by Dr.Dre, which are also more expensive than these Sennheiser. The sound was always tested without equalizer and other "sound improvement", since these are in my opinion mumbo jumbo and high-quality recordings add nothing but more washed out the big picture. Who is on the effects of, is the quiet turn, I'm not.
The Sennheiser provide the purposes of clarity, sophistication and balance everything else in the shade, I have been tested and are reasonably priced. This does not mean that they stand out somehow; On the contrary, you are holding back pleasant and provide the sound stage. Good shots are really different here from poor and you can hear the finest details. Not the sound range seems exaggerated.
I find it difficult, however, still differences between the 555 and 558 (or 595 and 598) to hear. Even in direct comparison (both headphones connected via splitters; reciprocally raised) I had to look for the differences.
