But talent, as it obviously presented Cole in his mixtapes "Warm Up" and "Friday Night Lights", in addition to a signing with Jay-Z's Roc Nation can also lead to completely abnormal expectations for his debut. The first reviews of this one sees this also - "Can not quite meet expectations". But if you have an Instant Classic expected that changes the hip-hop game for always, you can wait a long time. Because something turns out only after some time. Cole once said himself that it takes several years to determine whether an album is a classic or not. When it then after 5 years still hears you can safely call it such.
So now times not to speculate on the value of this work for the game, but it just evaluate at what Cole delivers us there. The album begins for him with a typical quiet, underlaid by a piano intro to where Cole the audience agrees on the story of how he was got signed. This is then carried out with "Dollar and a Dream III". On a large, slightly melancholy tinged instrumental, on the Cole both flow to be deployed also text technically great. Should be noted, at the tracklist that Cole has 12 produced by the 16 tracks themselves. The results speak for themselves absolutely. It can be clearly a common thread in the instrumentals recognize, but still enough variety is supplied, so you never get bored.
Cole's greatest strength in this context are the songs that fall into the "story-telling" category. Songs like "Lost Ones" or the iTunes bonus track "Daddy's Little Girl" tell their stories so exciting and emotionally sincere that it needs no puns to write great lines. Without his weaknesses to hide his fears Cole raps of his and our lives. For he is not a superstar in the sense. He also appeals to reason things that you can relate all too well - "We all the same, on different teams, but it's all a game". But only those songs would somehow be boring, which is why he gave us to all loosen a bit, tracks supplies as "Can not Get Enough", the second single, in which it simply comes to women. But by the extremely contagious beat, the Trey Songz regularly puts on the icing on the chorus, which is more than forgivable. "In the Morning", which is essentially the same subject treated again impresses with its incredibly smoothe production that Cole but a bit better to use white as his guest Drake.
And even if he so did not want to fit into the album at first listen to "Mr. Nice Watch" has transplanted after the first few passes fixed in the auditory canal. In a very synthetic Beat (the only one of its kind) spitten Cole and his mentor Jay-Z autoincrement rightly verses, which are provided with a few swipes at those who refused to believe in Cole.
The only criticism that remains is the lack of a proper single next to "Can not Get Enough". After all, the first single, "Work Out" has been relegated to a bonus track, has not felt like a proper single and the rest is good, very good, in fact, usually do great, but as singles not the songs sound too. But that is not half as disturbing, because in spite of everything is "Cole World: The Sideline Story" a thoroughly enjoyable album. J. Cole has found its place in the game, and I'm very excited about what's to come so in the coming years by him. Anyway, he will play at the top. One thing is certain.
Now even my Favourites:
1. Can not Get Enough - Just a feel-good song first order. Trey Songz makes a fanta stitches job and Cole raps very energetic yet very cool.
2. Lost Ones - A very poignant story about abortion, which illuminates both points of view. The background music is also very well done here.
3. Mr. Nice Watch - By far the heaviest song on the album. But that never sounds forced, but very confident. From both.
4. In the Morning - One of chilligsten songs that come to mind right away. It could not be more relaxed.
5. Dollar and a Dream III - A great instrumental hits a grand text - the perfect introduction.
Of course I can not say whether "Cole World" is still dominating my channel selection in 5 years, but currently it does now anyway. And my personal expectations fulfilled it fully. And even if it is unlikely to be the album of the year, it gets a full purchase recommendation.
