Delivery / state:
Printers, 230V power cable, 1.8m USB cable, Quick Start Guide and Manual (printed), CD with drivers and documentation.
Because there sometimes is laudable about "extra-HW" as USB cable has been expressed here in order to clarify:
HP warrants for shipments within Germany above listed delivery. People, if you have less in the case, then you have, at best, as good as new goods, otherwise used. So, there is clearly entitled to the entire above package.
Equipment has been supplied as new. (Black box, transparent Tesa strips were not removed or taped over for the second time; inside the blue special Tesa from HP that can be solved by plastic sheet again; the other protective film on the side and the front surfaces of the housing together with the cover. Finally, foam sheet on the inside cover of the device, which I have not seen even in the demonstration devices in consumer electronics stores.) All evidence of a really new product.
Installation:
The driver is easy to install, with me it was the classic version with connection via USB cable. Print went to install right away without any problems.
However, HP has come up with some tricks in the installation routine care.
Who just quickly "continue" pushing on, must not be surprised later ...
By default, enabled by the driver:
- Installation of the printer is reported to HP
- Frequency of use of the printer is reported to HP.
-.. Automatic driver updates (which ??? If I buy a printer, then I expect an executable drivers, and not only in a year after dozens of updates and additional features I do not need the printer to print only reasonable, from the beginning on.)
- Further software updates, toolbar, etc., and this service on the MS update.
Read correctly, HP seems to have entered into a cooperation with Microsoft that HP can use the MS-Update Channel with its printers. This, in particular the consequences for the printer use, please let everyone evaluate themselves.
I have set all of the features on disable ".
The links for this purpose are marked as smart Text tags, not through an explicit button.
Print / print quality:
The machine prints very quickly the pages just shoot out from the printer. If you have several MB text / images, the pressure takes naturally longer, the printer must be in between every pause to re-freshen the print buffer.
The quality is very good, even in the Econo-mode usually sufficient.
After the cold start the device, it takes about 30 seconds until it is ready to print.
After each print job is (unfortunately) a short cleaning / calibration performed, but only takes 7-15Sekunden, to 20, at least 30 seconds will is again ready to print. Compared to my CANON MP550 predecessor so very quickly.
Photos can also be printed, but the unit is not primarily designed for this purpose; so who attaches importance to pictures, should resort to a different series.
Printer housing:
The HW looks solid from processed, the sheet supply tray 250 follows on old tradition Deskjet again, also solid. The duplex unit is easy to assemble. A second storage compartment I do not use.
The only drawback: HP has saved on the rubber feet under the chassis. There are only 2 rubber feet donated for the rear area, where the carriage moves back and forth. In the front area HP has only two bare Kunstoffnippel donated upon which tends to slide the printer back and forth.
Remedy: There are double-sided adhesive pads of TESA, which can be detached without a trace. (TESA Tack ") of which I have donated 2 for the front support; now the printer is also slipping on a smooth desk surface.
Printer Ink Cartridges:
According to HP, and also by sellers of retail warehouses must (!) Be used for the initial commissioning of the printer's origianl supplied so-called Setup "cartridges, otherwise the printer can not initialize. What looks at first glance like harassment, you can still more positive than consider product protection. This ensures that third parties (eg also resellers!) have not ever used any cartridges and have printed it ... and such a device then sell them as new. " The pressure capacity of the Setup "should be only 1/3 to Πof XL cartridges. Have already printed several pages, to date the ink level indicators are still on Max". If yes, according to other reviews keep quite long.
Cartridge identification: HP has left the path of mandatory data and are spongy only an effective capacity to page. Specifically, it lacks any indication of the volume of ink in ml ", as was still the case with the old cartridges. Thus, the manufacturer can change the fill virtually any without having to be taken in this Regreßpflicht can. It is then like drugstores or food articles where the tube of hand cream instead of 100ml standard at a time only 75ml sums, and this at the same price.
(Only the changes are currently still listed explicitly in those articles.)
I put the cartridge in its original condition to the letter scale; That's what I'm going to benchmark future times with the XL cartridges. Is also ne good way to see if the manufacturer "has saved ink in a batch.
Conclusion:
Anyone looking for a pure printer is solid, fast and well-printed and also has an acceptable paper capacity, on top of that is network-compatible, which is well served with the Officejet 8100.
One more thing: have the offered at Amazon Garantieverlängerung via ERGO equal ordered to prevent a failure disaster after 2 years. Round 10 for 3 years in addition is really good. HP provides on its website, the device will still be 10 more expensive in online shipping (as of the end of April'13).
