For my ears, there are also a small expansion of the sound, and that has something to do with one of the three producers Daniel Lanois. The songs come partially with a sometimes bombastic 80s painting therefore that was with 'Day & Age' indeed been so, but I thought it was more a Pop painting, this time it's with the help of Lanois deep into the box of the 80 rock / AOR references, car driving music to sing along loud, perfect for me - perhaps a little difficult for fans who see themselves more as indie rockers ;-). The Single CROSSFIRE shows already this direction, but also ONLY THE YOUNG PLAYING WITH FIRE and go exactly in this direction voluminous pathetic. The other big reference on this album is his hometown and the Midwest. Both lyrically ("Did not nobody tell you the house will always win?) And musically, with one or the other slide and Country guitar (the anthem BROKEN HEARTS, the refrain of the Top 10 is almost born, HARD ENOUGH, PLAYING WITH FIRE with a strong penchant for Bryan Ferry). From mid-vest, we go back to the East Coast and to Mexico, the castanets laced track on this album is MAGDALENA.
So again a cornucopia full of surprises like 'Day & Age'. With some great moments and great melodies, and a few small dropouts. Anyone who has at 'Days & Age' could this swing not understand and the first two Killers albums liked more, and they were probably quite a few fans, which should rather be on this solo album fingers. Who but how do I find this eclecticism and this musical disorientation exciting, here is more than well served.
For fans: necessarily procure the De-Luxe version, they are not distinguished by photo and image material, but above all by 4 extra tracks
Update after 10 weeks: I have my initial adjust slightly upward and awarded full marks. After a lot of times listening to Flamingo has now seized correctly in my ears. The Arrangments that wonderful lyrics, just the right dose of pathos and kitsch. With or without tape, Brandon will be remembered not received many years hopefully.
