Vain is the first vampire in history and the first Urr werewolf but it will not be the last. They are not like the current bed bit narratives, rather they are normal especially vain that is not super sexy for a vampire. Regarding wolves, they reproduce continuously and have litters of five small on average. What is changing our current novels where they seek only one woman they will love all their lives. Here they live, copulate with several women and die ...
The entire novel relates the tracking of descendants of Urr in vain. It's really catchy. We follow his solitude, he still speaks to the skull of a dead Auroch he wears on his head and he called Horn ... That one is a little conscience, his mentor, a guide ... It is original. It probably arrived in killing all the descendants of his brother but that's what Nature has given him a mission. We gradually discover the skills of the vampire. He even decided to have his own family ... This is not really a success.
I have not found the lovable characters even though I had pity for vain who must accomplish the mission that has been assigned. It remains cold and distant. It's mostly her main character, others as Urr, or Sezni Pia are more secondary and eventually die in the end, even if they bring a more significant to the novel.
The sharp end still leaves some unfinished because all descendants of Urr did not die, which is normal, too, is impossible. In any case, the quest for vain comes to an end.
But this end also brings a bit of mythology, do you know the legend of Romulus and Remus, the founders of Rome? You can find out quickly and it makes you want to dive in, to find out more.
For cons, the historical context is not sufficiently supplied, to my taste. The rites of the Neolithic and some legends are given, but I would have expected more history, more descriptions ...
Anyway, I thoroughly enjoyed this novel, I let myself be carried by the pen of the author, stalking vain as dark and bloody as it is. It is a very addictive good book and reads in one sitting.
