Have come over the years to the realization that it is extremely important for me to keep the camera on a long time comfortably in the hand. The first step to this realization was my then change from the Olympus E500 for NIKON D80. The case of the D80 was a lot more comfortable in my added not just small hands. No more cramps during long photo sessions; just a lot more comfortable. Then came the D300 and here I noticed again improved handling with the slightly larger housing. Since I have now even the battery grip to the 300 I screw him only the battery switch off. The housing without handle comes to me now already strange to :-) The price is of course the pure madness (1 point deduction); but if I want to make me a D300 / can ... The build quality is absolutely top, only those controls that are not 100% the camera; but quite OK D300 Battery Grip - Guaranteed.
