Big Music joined seamlessly into the series of the last two good Simple Minds albums. After a certain sagging late 90s, early 00s, SM curve have indeed regained and no longer ashamed that to do what they do best. Epic sounds pompous melody, infinite pathos in the lyrics and the voice, exactly at the interface between pop and rock. And Big Music is exactly what the title says! Although some younger producers (do not worry, the long-term companion Steve Hillage is also at the controls on the go) and co-authors (Iain Cook of Chvrches, highly recommended by the way) are at work, a typical SM album came out. However, some less rocky than the previous album Graffiti Soul, for it clearly and electronic synthilastiger, where the strong beat of Mel Gaynor is not missing.
Playing tips for the undecided, if it exists at all, or the younger music lovers, discover little by little the forefathers for themselves. Of course, the already known single HONEST TOWN, are addressed in the typical very personal for the band themes. It is about the childhood memory of Kerr, triggered by the death of his mother. KILL OR CURE, that seems to come directly from the 80, there is nothing modern about this song, which makes it quite endearing. The optimistic LET THE DAY BEGIN, a cover of the not so popular band The Call, which still gets the curve for a little troughs opener. The title song BIG MUSIC combines all the classic features, a little pathetic anthem wonderful synth sounds and powerful drums. MIDNIGHT WALKING draws in guests with its spectacular beginning. IMAGINATION one of the bit meaner numbers that are more dominated by the guitar. Of course a few songs that stand out immediately. CONCRETE AND CHERRY BLOSSOM, for example, the KILL OR CURE similar strong play with 80 set pieces, this is not, unfortunately, creates so smart.
But for me still full marks, see justification in the first paragraph ;-)
