The nurmehr three funny guys from Depeche Mode accompanied the release of their second remix collection with various statements. For example, that for them only a Remix is ​​good if it reveals the original and not just place only boom boom among a few remaining samples. Strangely, there have still been plenty of Bumm Bumm with a few remaining samples in this collection. On "Remixes 1" a lot of '80s-Maxis were represented, which worked out the musical depth of the then quartet voluminous and effectively. The opener "Never Let Me Down Again" represents the pathos pregnant pomposity and at the same welcoming atmosphere which conveyed no other band as well. Especially not in the charts. Thither brought demo itself "Stripped" and "A Question Of Lust". Much as in the Einstürzende Neubauten-infected "Master And Servant" and "People Are People" demo were never again. "Enjoy The Silence" and "Personal Jesus" marked last climax and first turning points: After Depeche Mode were unfortunately banal. Both musically and in terms of the atmosphere, which they knew to be transported until then. The music was flat, tralala melodies. Low point was the audible wherever a Best-Of fed thought "onyl When I Lose Myself" with the banal melody in demo universe. The Underworld mix of "Barrel Of A Gun" was again a blast. After Depeche Mode have set no more milestones.

Even more than the first remix triple CD includes the second reworkings of old songs. In addition, the last song, inherently already inconsequential demo time. The Neubearbeiter enjoy great popularity in Remixerkreisen, do well their job quite well, but leave a trail of lulling Bumm Bumm. Between them cavort some ballads better: Ambient versions. The "81" in the title, unfortunately, is not the oldest represented Remix, but for the oldest Remix template. Which is a shame. So namely the Death Mix from the wonderful "Fly On The Windscreen" not only the oldest, but 'although the Extenden version on the "It's Called A Heart" -Maxi is even better' the best piece on "Remixes 2". À propos "It's Called A Heart": There is still some slumbering in the demo archives, which would have made on this collection a better figure than the mixes actually contained. Most are in fact simply sounding after remixer electric pieces with Dave Gahan-vocals. The mixers do not succeed, contrary to the above-mentioned band statement to make more than Bumm Bumm with a bit of original sample. While we recognize the mixer part to their style and their typical effects, but the soul of Depeche Mode will be lost, even more than the original anyway in the last twenty years. "Remixes 2" is okay as a dance collection, but as Depeche Mode Compilation disappointing.
