In my opinion, a Classic!

I had it in my library for years, the title does not inspire me too much, I was expecting a boring love story on war fictionalized background ... Nothing to do! This is a real investigation that leads to find her Mathilde Manech. A Very Long Engagement is more of a suspense novel interspersed epistolary passages and descriptions of war and scenes of normal life (not to mention the love story ...). Quickly we ask THE question, such as heroin we want to know the truth, the wait is long and the temptation to read directly the very high end! The last 100 pages have prevented me to shut the eye before late into the night. The writing is fluid and enjoyable and described all human and endearing characters (some Mathilde descriptions recall the character of Amelie Poulain). The story is well documented and full of details, so it seems plausible and even real. Who knows? Deeply the movie!
