One caution: I just played this game without any information beforehand. So I did not know what to expect, except that I am exploring an abandoned house. Those who like to be surprised by games, I recommend the following information is not to be read as the storytelling that is in my opinion a main attraction of the game.
******************* SPOILER BEGINNING *******************
The player explores from a first person perspective of a young woman who comes from a long trip to Europe, the parental home. During her time in Europe, the parents have moved along with her younger sister in the new house.
Upon arrival from the airport to home, a storm is raging and rain whipped against the windows. It quickly becomes clear here is nobody in the house. So what to do? Looking for the supposedly lost family members to search the house for clues. One reads in letters "forbidden" by the love of the sister, the marital problems of the parents. Accompanied exploring the excellent set to music diary entries the nurse. The rest in the house is merely broken by sporadic thunder and the sounds of the house. It is expected any moment that something sinister is happening, a moment of shock, as is the case in many other indie horror games. But that's the point. Gone Home is not a horror game. It is a game that gives an insight into family problems, pubescent teens and professional problems actually a normal family. That may sound extremely boring for the one, I was the story but very touched.
******************* SPOILER END *******************
I play (English) Games always in English with English language edition, so do not bother me, the fact that there is no German setting. However, there is a fan translation, which enables German subtitles.
In addition to the actual game, which I will give 5 stars, even the material part of the Collector's Edition of course you must evaluate. And precisely that has slightly disappointed me. The poster is advised nice but a bit small. And the stickers in the form of a cassette, well. Beautifully scroll through the Developer's Diary; a bound book would this edition, however, very enhanced and offer a real added value. The game time is relatively short, but I think that the gameplay is also not suitable for a longer season. Given that many modern shooters entertain much longer and cost more than double this, you can turn a blind eye. Above all, the knowledge that one a bold developers away from the Triple-A mainstream support, makes me happy to pay the price of currently 20 Euro. In addition, the game has no DRM spoon-feeding, as unfortunately nowadays is also a common practice. In addition, the game can be added through an enclosed Steam Key in the Steam library.
I find it very unfortunate that some reviewers give this game a bad review, because it's not your taste. Moreover, how can you evaluate a game in its entirety, if I do not even make the effort to play it to the end? Yes, this game can be very difficult to compare with other games, because there are no comparable statistics. But if you're getting into it, and is willing to work out the story, then the player will find a charming story about love and the impasses on the way to adulthood.
