I was looking for a RAID disk system for my photos. Here I was undecided whether I should be a stationary or better take a portable system. Stationary stood clearly in the foreground, because I would be so rarely go. Then appeared on this pretty part. It seemed to be the ideal compromise.
What I like it well:
- The solid aluminum housing
- The fast Thunderbolt port
- The power supply via Thunderbolt (no power supply required)
- The relatively moderate price (for RAID and Thunderbolt cable incl.)
- And that the cable is included
In operation then falls to the quiet operation, even if turns on the fan.
What I like less
- The device is a bit bulky and surprisingly heavy; So probably robust, but one has to drag.
- The Thunderbolt cable is installed relatively short and firm. While this is convenient for transportation, but critical in use, let alone with a defect.
- On the base plate are tiny rubber stopper glued as feet (let's see when the first disappears) and a vertical operation is obviously not provided.
What I do not like
is the fact that the Thundebolt port is not looped through. So I can connect to my MacBook Air either the hard drive or an external monitor. This is not acceptable for stationary use.
So burst for me so the compromise-bubble. If you do not have 2 Thunderbolt ports on the Mac or a monitor with other ports, the unit is m. E. only for mobile use, but also only if you can get used to the high weight. Let's see what I do with it.
